Matt Chapman Will Miss Rest of 2026 Season After Core Muscle Surgery
San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman will miss the remainder of the 2026 season after undergoing surgery for a core muscle injury. An examination Monday in Philadelphia by Dr. William C. Meyers confirmed Chapman has both a hernia and a core muscle tear, conditions the five-time Gold Glove infielder had been playing through for much of the year. Chapman slashed .235/.324/.368 with seven home runs and 42 RBI across 352 plate appearances before landing on the injured list. Christian Koss is expected to serve as San Francisco’s primary third baseman the rest of the way.

Phillies Edge Cardinals 6-5 as Painter Carries No-Hitter Into Sixth
Edmundo Sosa drove in three runs and Kyle Schwarber reached base four times as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-5 on Monday night. Andrew Painter took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Ivan Herrera’s one-out double broke it up and Alec Burleson followed with a two-run single. Schwarber, who leads the NL with 35 home runs, singled and scored in the fifth and doubled home Garrett Stubbs in the seventh. Astros Rally Past Giants 6-3 in 10 Innings; Hader Earns Win
The Houston Astros rallied to beat the San Francisco Giants 6-3 in 10 innings on Monday night. McAdoo Homer Lifts Blue Jays 2-1; Taillon Exits With Forearm Discomfort
Charles McAdoo homered to lead off the fifth inning Monday as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Boston Red Sox 2-1, handing Boston its third consecutive loss. McAdoo, making his first start at third base in place of a late-scratch Kazuma Okamoto (bruised left knee), hit just his second career home run in nine major league games. Brett Baty crushed a grand slam and Kodai Senga earned the first save of his major league career as the New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves 8-5 on Monday night in Atlanta. Mets Place Closer Devin Williams on IL With Right Shoulder Strain
The New York Mets placed closer Devin Williams on the 15-day injured list Monday with a right shoulder strain, retroactive to August 8. Williams, who has 16 saves and three blown saves for New York in 2026, had been dealing with shoulder fatigue for several weeks before the club acted. “He’s been dealing with a little bit of shoulder fatigue for a little while now,” interim manager Andy Green said. “It was something he was confident he could work through.” Right-hander Jonathan Pintaro was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to fill the roster spot. The Mets expect Williams to return within the 15-day window.
