Nvidia Confirms $12.9 Billion Acquisition of Hugging Face
Nvidia has confirmed its acquisition of Hugging Face, the open-source AI platform that hosts three million models, one million applications, and half a million datasets used by more than 18 million developers. The $12.9 billion deal — the chip company’s largest ever — includes approximately $11.9 billion payable to stockholders and an equity-based retention program of up to $1 billion for Hugging Face employees joining Nvidia. CEO Jensen Huang committed to keeping the platform open to all silicon vendors and open-source contributors. The transaction requires regulatory approval and is expected to close in the first half of 2027.

OpenAI Launches GPT-6 Astra With Perfect ExploitBench Score
OpenAI launched GPT-6 Astra on Thursday, making it available first to customers enrolled in Daybreak, its cybersecurity program, before a planned rollout to Pro, Plus, Enterprise, and Business subscribers. The model is OpenAI’s most powerful to date and its most controversial, incorporating an inference method called opaque recurrence — a looping approach that leaves fewer legible reasoning traces than standard chain-of-thought techniques. Astra scored a perfect score on ExploitBench, a test of a model’s ability to exploit known system vulnerabilities, and autonomously discovered two zero-day vulnerabilities during evaluation. OpenAI deployed additional chain-of-thought monitoring to detect and halt unsafe behaviors.

Tesla Launches Cybercab Robotaxi in Austin, Invites Fleet Operators
Tesla launched its Cybercab robotaxi in Austin, Texas on Thursday, deploying the fully autonomous two-seater vehicle — a small gold sedan with no steering wheel or pedals that uses cameras and AI to navigate — across the city for public rides. Tesla simultaneously published a form inviting businesses to apply as fleet operators, mobility hub providers, and infrastructure partners, signaling ambitions to expand beyond company-operated rides. At launch, Tesla had 420 autonomous vehicles registered in Texas. The company already charges for driverless rides in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa using autonomous Model Y vehicles.

Abliteration.ai Turns Guardrail Removal Into Commercial Service
Abliteration.ai, a startup named after a technique that strips AI models of their tendency to refuse harmful requests, has turned that technique into a commercial service by hosting modified open-weight models — including Z.ai’s recently released GLM-5.3 — with safety constraints removed, accessible via browser or API. TechCrunch tested the service and found it readily produced instructions for stealing Chrome browser passwords and detailed protocols for culturing dangerous pathogens. The company describes its purpose as enabling offensive cybersecurity research and red-team testing. Incorporated in March 2026, Abliteration.ai has moved an underground open-source practice into a readily available commercial product.
