ChatGPT for Healthcare Adds Epic EHR Integration for Clinicians

OpenAI's ChatGPT for Healthcare launched a new integration with Epic's electronic health record system, allowing authorized clinicians to access and summarize patient information within ChatGPT or supported Epic workflows. The tool pulls clinical notes, lab results, medications and specialist documentation to help physicians prepare for appointments and track changes in patient health over time. The integration is read-only and does not write information back to patient records. UCSF Health is serving as a pilot partner. Physicians rated 99.1% of ChatGPT responses safe across 4,363 ratings spanning 27 clinical use cases involving connected EHR context. The integration is available to ChatGPT for Healthcare customers.

Healthcare Organizations Must Build Guardrails as Agentic AI Grows More Autonomous

As AI agents become more autonomous in healthcare settings, organizations face growing pressure to implement guardrails preventing unintended or unauthorized actions from affecting patient care. Ankit Jain, cofounder and CEO of Infinitus, describes how healthcare organizations can safely deploy increasingly autonomous AI agents, including monitoring systems that detect anomalies and contradictions while creating alerts for human oversight. Infinitus launched Clinical Escalations, a risk-detection system ensuring AI agents triage patients correctly by continuously assessing risk during interactions. The company's no-code agent builder, Studio, gives health organizations tools to define rules, escalate edge cases to humans and maintain a complete audit trail of every action.

Health Systems Test Ambient AI to Broaden Nursing Documentation Automation

Health systems are testing whether nursing documentation automation improves clinical presence, note quality, staff wellbeing and retention — not just reducing time required to finish a note. A nationwide nurse-designed initiative is using voice-based ambient AI to capture nurse-patient conversations and relay the data to electronic health records in medical-surgical and progressive care unit settings. Healthcare leaders say the next phase of innovation requires more than adapting physician-focused tools; success depends on involving nurses as co-designers and addressing the full range of technology burdens shaping the nursing workday. The initiative signals a broader push to extend AI documentation tools beyond physician use cases.

Teladoc Launches AI-Driven Teladoc One Platform, Puts All Fees at Risk

Teladoc Health launched Teladoc One, a new AI-driven virtual care platform, beginning rollouts with an initial group of enterprise customers in September 2026. The platform draws on a unified virtual care data ecosystem and combines artificial intelligence with human care navigation to enhance patient health outcomes and reduce overall care costs. Teladoc One's Pulse intelligence engine pairs clinical history with claims, pharmacy, device, medical record, engagement and eligibility data to inform real-time guidance for caregivers. Teladoc is placing 100% of its fees at risk, linking payment directly to medical cost savings and clinical outcomes. General availability is planned for January 2027.

HL7 Launches Caliper FHIR Accelerator to Standardize Medical Device Data Exchange

Health Level Seven International launched the Caliper FHIR Accelerator, a multi-stakeholder implementation community aimed at improving how data from medical and personal health devices is exchanged across all care settings. Medical device vendors, healthcare providers and IT developers will collaborate to advance device safety and innovation through standardized informatics and AI integrations. The initiative builds on the Gemini Device Interoperability Program, a partnership with Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise International, combining HL7's data standards with IHE's health IT guidance. Participants will attend FHIR communication testing events, connecting physical devices or software to pilot interoperability workflows in intensive care units and home-based care environments.
