Mets Outlast Marlins in Wild 15-14 Victory to Complete Sweep
Francisco Lindor slugged a three-run homer in the seventh inning and Christopher Morel went 3-for-4 with three RBIs against his former team as the New York Mets completed a three-game sweep of the host Miami Marlins with a 15-14 win. The Mets led 8-0 in the third inning before Miami mounted a comeback to tie the game. New York then scored six more in the seventh, including Lindor’s homer, to pull away for good. Tobias Myers earned his second save of the season. The Mets have now won four straight games, extending their push for postseason positioning.
Chisholm Placed on IL With Sprained Thumb, Potential Season-Ending Blow for Yankees
The New York Yankees placed second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the injured list with a sprained right thumb, a potential season-ending blow with only 18 games remaining. Manager Aaron Boone announced the move Wednesday after tests confirmed the injury. Chisholm hurt the thumb sliding headfirst into second base while attempting to stretch a single into a double in the eighth inning of Tuesday’s 5-3 win over Colorado. He is expected to be shut down from baseball activities for seven to 10 days, which could keep him sidelined through the end of the regular season.
Schwarber’s 44th Home Run Powers Phillies Past Astros 11-7
Kyle Schwarber hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to deliver his major-league-leading 44th home run of the season, capping a six-run frame as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Houston Astros 11-7. Schwarber connected on a 3-2 sweeper from reliever A.J. Blubaugh for his 10th career grand slam and fourth home run in his last five games. Trea Turner also contributed a solo homer in the fifth after singling, stealing second, and scoring in the third. Cristopher Sánchez allowed six runs on 10 hits over six innings but earned the win to improve to 17-5.

The Guardians improved to 74-72 and now sit 2.5 games behind the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox while holding onto the final AL Wild Card spot. The Los Angeles Dodgers completed a three-game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds with a 14-1 victory, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto leading the pitching effort. Elly De La Cruz hit his 26th home run of the season, his fifth straight game with a long ball, but it was not nearly enough as the Reds suffered their 11th consecutive loss at Dodger Stadium. Yelich, Chourio, Contreras Go Deep as Brewers Beat Cubs 8-6
Christian Yelich hit a three-run homer in the first inning, Jackson Chourio added his 23rd home run in the second, and William Contreras also connected as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Chicago Cubs 8-6 to extend their commanding lead in the NL Central. The Brewers, now 91-56, moved 10 games ahead of the Cubs (81-66) with their magic number to clinch the division title down to five. Kevin Gausman started for Chicago in the series finale. Yelich finished with three RBIs, while Chourio and Contreras each drove in two runs in the victory.
Lombard’s Historic Grand Slam Leads Yankees Past Rockies 6-1
Rookie George Lombard Jr. belted his first career grand slam as New York defeated the Colorado Rockies 6-1. Lombard connected in the third inning with the bases loaded, driving in four runs off Colorado starter Tomoyuki Sugano. The 21-year-old has been one of the Yankees’ standout performers down the stretch of the regular season. Will Warren pitched six solid innings, allowing one run on four hits, to improve to 10-5 on the season. The Yankees held their spot in the American League East standings, sitting 3.5 games behind the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays.
Padres Call Up 20-Year-Old Prospect Ethan Salas for Wild Card Push
The San Diego Padres promoted catching prospect Ethan Salas from Triple-A El Paso, making the 20-year-old the youngest player in the major leagues as the team bolsters its wild-card push. Salas, the Padres’ top prospect who turned 20 in June, is expected to see some time behind the plate. He will not immediately assume everyday catching duties, but his left-handed bat and defensive skill set give the team additional options as the postseason chase enters its final weeks. San Diego sits in the thick of the National League Wild Card race.
