49ers Owner Jed York Suspended Six Games, Fined $500,000 by NFL
The NFL suspended San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York for six games and fined him $500,000 on Friday for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. York was arrested Aug. 23 in East Palestine, Ohio, on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools, and has since pleaded no contest to both. He has been absent from San Francisco’s first three games, which count toward the suspension, and can return after the Week 6 Monday night game against Washington on Oct. 19. “This was an inexcusable mistake and I take full responsibility,” York said in a statement released by the team.
Commanders Rule Out Jayden Daniels; Marcus Mariota to Start Against Colts in London
Washington Commanders coach Dan Quinn ruled out quarterback Jayden Daniels on Friday for Sunday’s Week 4 game against the Indianapolis Colts in London. Marcus Mariota will make his second start of the season. Daniels dislocated his non-throwing elbow in a Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He traveled to London and was a limited participant in practices this week. “We’ll assess where we are next week when he gets a full week of practice all the way through,” Quinn said. Mariota threw three touchdowns with no interceptions for a 110.0 passer rating in last week’s win over the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.
Vikings Rule Out Justin Jefferson for Sunday’s Game Against Dolphins
Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell announced at his Friday press conference that wide receiver Justin Jefferson will miss Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins with an ankle injury. Jefferson was hurt in last week’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and did not practice all week. Through three games this season, he has 13 catches for 179 yards and two touchdowns. The Vikings also ruled out Charles Demmings with a hamstring injury and punter Brett Thorson with a right hamstring injury. O’Connell said Johnny Hekker will be elevated from the practice squad to punt against Miami on Sunday.

Cowboys Still Deciding Whether Joey Porter Jr. Debuts Against Texans
Cornerback Joey Porter Jr., traded to the Dallas Cowboys late Wednesday night, practiced with his new team for the first time Thursday, and head coach Brian Schottenheimer said Friday the club is still working out whether he will debut Sunday against the Houston Texans. Porter did not practice all summer because of what was called a back injury, but he was not on the Cowboys’ injury report. “I thought it was a great start yesterday,” Schottenheimer said on 105.3 The Fan. He said Porter’s ability to communicate with Caleb Downs and the safeties will drive the decision and called the trade a sign the Cowboys are in “win-now mode.”

CBS Sports and Tony Romo Part Ways; JJ Watt Stays on Lead NFL Broadcast Team
CBS Sports announced Friday that it and NFL analyst Tony Romo have mutually agreed to part ways after nine years. JJ Watt will continue to work alongside Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson on the network’s lead NFL announce team for the rest of the season. Romo was arrested during a traffic stop in Milwaukee on July 23 and charged with operating while intoxicated; he pleaded no contest on Sept. 1. CBS placed him on leave on July 31. In a statement, Romo said he plans “to take a break, something I’ve never done before, and focus on my health and my family” before moving on to his next opportunity.

Ravens’ Trey Hendrickson Out for Week 4 After Procedure on Broken Finger
The Baltimore Ravens will be without Trey Hendrickson for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans after he underwent a procedure to repair a broken finger, head coach Jesse Minter said at his Friday press conference. The finger had been broken in multiple places. “We were able to get the finger fixed,” Minter said. “We think it’ll be [a] very, very short term [absence], but just in a quick way to get that fixed and get him back, I think that’s going to be best for us moving forward long term.” In three games this season, Hendrickson has registered one sack, a tackle for loss and three quarterback hits.

Jets Rule Out Breece Hall, Adonai Mitchell and Three Others Against Bears
The New York Jets will be shorthanded Sunday against the Chicago Bears. Head coach Aaron Glenn announced at his Friday press conference that running back Breece Hall (quad), tight end Mason Taylor (thumb), receiver Adonai Mitchell (finger), left guard Dylan Parham (knee) and linebacker Kiko Mauioga have all been ruled out. Edge rusher Kingsley Enagbare could end up questionable; Glenn said Enagbare would be a limited participant in Friday’s practice after he was limited Wednesday and did not practice Thursday. Minkah Fitzpatrick appears on track to return from a groin injury after he was upgraded to a full participant in Thursday’s practice.

Eagles Rule Out DeVonta Smith, Zack Baun and Dallas Goedert Against Rams
The Philadelphia Eagles ruled out receiver DeVonta Smith (hamstring), linebacker Zack Baun (concussion) and tight end Dallas Goedert (knee) for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. Smith was unable to practice all week, which is rare for the sixth-year receiver; he has 19 catches for 235 yards and a touchdown in three games. Philadelphia also ruled out receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown (ankle), safety Marcus Epps (groin) and offensive tackle Fred Johnson (knee). Several others, including defensive tackles Jalen Carter (wrist) and Jordan Davis (calf) and outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard (pectoral), are off the injury report and are expected to play.

Signs Point to Tyson Bagent Starting at Quarterback for Bears Against Jets
Chicago Bears coach Ben Johnson has kept his Week 4 starting quarterback a secret ahead of Sunday’s game against the New York Jets, but signs point to Tyson Bagent, Pro Football Talk reported Friday. Bagent, not Case Keenum, took the first-team practice reps through two full practice days as Caleb Williams continues to recover from a hamstring injury. Keenum got the Monday night start against the Philadelphia Eagles because Bagent was in the concussion protocol at the time. Bagent is No. 2 on the depth chart and Keenum is No. 3, and both are healthy. Bagent entered the Week 2 game against the Vikings in the fourth quarter.

Falcons Ring of Honor Center Jeff Van Note Dies at 80
The Atlanta Falcons announced Friday that longtime center Jeff Van Note has died at age 80. The Falcons selected Van Note in the 11th round of the 1969 draft, and he remained with the team through the 1986 season. Then-head coach Norm Van Brocklin moved him to center, and he became a starter in 1970, going on to make six Pro Bowls and twice earn second-team All-Pro honors. His 246 games with Atlanta rank second in franchise history, behind former teammate Mike Kenn. He was added to the Ring of Honor in 2006. “Today, we mourn the loss of a true Falcons legend,” owner Arthur Blank said.
