Bills Beat Rams 37-34 in Overtime on Tyler Bass Field Goal
The Buffalo Bills defeated the Los Angeles Rams 37-34 in overtime on Monday, October 12, improving to 4-1 while the Rams fell to 2-3. Buffalo took the opening overtime possession, but James Cook fumbled early in the drive after Nate Landman forced the issue. The Rams drove to Buffalo’s 30-yard line, where Greg Rousseau blocked Harrison Mevis’s field goal attempt. Josh Allen then scrambled for 19 and 13 yards to move Buffalo into range, and Tyler Bass made a 45-yard field goal with 1:55 remaining. Allen finished with 331 total yards and two touchdowns, including 210 passing yards and 121 rushing yards.

The San Francisco 49ers beat the Seattle Seahawks 32-29 on Sunday to improve to 5-0, while Seattle fell to 3-2. Cooper Kupp was ruled short of the first-down marker by a fraction of a yard with 47 seconds remaining, and the call was upheld on replay review, ending Seattle’s comeback bid. The Seahawks committed four turnovers that San Francisco turned into 21 points, including a defensive touchdown after Gracen Halton forced a George Holani fumble late in the second quarter. Receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba said afterward: “We’re pissed. We’re pissed. We wanted this one.”
Marvin Harrison Jr. Trade to Texans Becomes Official After Physical
The Arizona Cardinals traded wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. to the Houston Texans, and the deal became official after Harrison passed his physical on Monday, according to multiple reports. In exchange, Arizona receives a 2027 second-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick that originally belonged to the 49ers, and the Cardinals also sent a 2027 sixth-round pick to Houston. The fourth overall selection in the 2024 draft reunites with former Ohio State teammate C.J. Stroud. In 33 games with the Cardinals, Harrison recorded 108 receptions for 1,578 yards and 13 touchdowns, Pro Football Talk reported.

Deebo Samuel Expected to Miss Time with Hamstring Injury
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. sustained a right hamstring injury in Sunday’s 32-29 victory over the Seattle Seahawks, suffered with 5:06 remaining in the third quarter when Seahawks linebacker Drake Thomas tackled him on the left sideline. Coach Kyle Shanahan said the injury “got him pretty good” and that Samuel is “going to miss some time,” with the team expecting him to be unavailable for at least the next couple of games. Linebacker Garret Wallow also hurt a hamstring and will miss at least two weeks, while defensive end Nick Bosa (calf) could return this week.
Commanders and Giants Tie 27-27 as Quinn Blames Overtime Clock Execution on Himself
The Washington Commanders and New York Giants finished in a 27-27 tie on Sunday when time expired in overtime before Washington could clock the ball. Rachaad White’s 2-yard run put the Commanders at the Giants’ 24-yard line with about 56 seconds left, but both overtime timeouts were gone. Jayden Daniels took the snap with 12 seconds remaining, kept the ball and was sacked with about eight seconds left. Coach Dan Quinn said: “It starts with me, first off. No doubt about it.” He added that it took “entirely too long” to execute the strategy, “from subbing to clock awareness to clocking the ball.”
Vikings Beat Saints 23-13 as Defense Holds New Orleans to 142 Yards
The Minnesota Vikings beat the New Orleans Saints 23-13 on Sunday, adding to a four-game winning streak to open the season. ESPN noted that few projected the Vikings to spend much time atop the NFC North, and that they still ranked No. 14 in its Football Power Index after those four straight wins. Minnesota now holds a two-game lead in the division, which includes two NFC North wins and four conference wins. The Vikings lost two red-zone fumbles on offense, but their defense held the Saints to just 142 total yards, locking down opponents again as it has all season.
Packers Lose Javon Hargrave for Season with Torn Achilles
Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Javon Hargrave suffered a season-ending torn Achilles in the final minutes of Sunday’s 31-7 win over the Chicago Bears. Hargrave came up hopping after a pass-rush move, could not bear weight on his right leg and was carted off. It was the second consecutive game in which the Packers lost a defensive player to a season-ending torn Achilles, following linebacker Edgerrin Cooper a week earlier. Hargrave, 33, signed a two-year, $23 million contract in free agency and had four tackles in four games. Coach Matt LaFleur said: “I just saw Hargrave and it doesn’t look good.”
Backup Tyler Huntley Rallies Ravens Past Falcons 30-23 in Overtime
The Baltimore Ravens beat the Atlanta Falcons 30-23 in overtime on Sunday behind backup quarterback Tyler Huntley, who completed 24 of 32 passes. With 40 seconds left in regulation, Huntley threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Devontez Walker, and Derrick Henry converted the two-point conversion to tie the game at 23-23. In overtime, Huntley led a 14-play touchdown drive, the NFL’s longest overtime touchdown drive in eight years, connecting with Mark Andrews and Zay Flowers on key third downs before scoring on a 1-yard quarterback sneak. Coach Jesse Minter said of Huntley: “He doesn’t really get rattled.”
Rib Injury to Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. Not Considered Serious
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. sustained a rib injury in Sunday’s 30-23 overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens, and sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter the injury “is not considered serious.” Tavius Robinson sacked Penix late in the fourth quarter of a tied game, and a trainer helped him off the field. Penix did not return for overtime, saying the pain intensified as he sat on the bench getting cold. He had completed 19 of 32 passes for 240 yards and a touchdown, with no interceptions. Coach Kevin Stefanski said more would be known Wednesday, and Penix might be available Sunday against Chicago.
