Max Verstappen’s debut at the Nürburgring 24 Hours ended in anguish when a driveshaft failure struck his No. 3 Mercedes-AMG GT3 after leading for much of the race. Verstappen shared driving duties with Jules Gounon, Daniel Juncadella, and Lucas Auer across the 24-hour event, and the crew held a commanding position before an ABS sensor issue triggered vibrations with roughly three and a half hours remaining. The driveshaft then failed, relegating them down the order. The No. 80 Winward Mercedes crew of Maro Engel, Luca Stolz, Fabian Schiller, and Maxime Martin inherited the victory, delivering the marque its first Nürburgring 24H triumph since 2016.

Delétraz Replaces Injured Lynn in Cadillac for Le Mans 24 Hours

Michelin Debuts New Pilot Sport Endurance Tires Ahead of Le Mans

Michelin has introduced its new Pilot Sport Endurance tire range for the 2026 WEC and IMSA seasons, with the latest-generation rubber set to tackle its first Le Mans 24 Hours in June. The tires, which debuted competitively at the season-opening 6 Hours of Imola, target a lap-time gain of three to five seconds through improved grip and consistency. The range also increases sustainable-material content as part of Michelin’s environmental program, with around 30,000 units produced annually. The Italian squad first revived the iconic Mercedes color scheme for Le Mans in 2025 and has expanded the concept for 2026, with each car distinguished by unique rear-end accents: black on the No. 61, yellow on the No. 79, and Qatari national colors on the No. 62 in partnership with Team Qatar, who are making their first Le Mans appearance. Team principal Andrea Piccini expressed pride at continuing the Silver Arrows tradition at the world’s most prestigious endurance race.

McLaren MCL-HY Begins On-Track Testing Ahead of 2027 WEC Debut

McLaren’s Hypercar Team has commenced on-track testing of the MCL-HY LMDh at the Autodromo Riccardo Paletti in Italy, completing a successful shakedown ahead of the marque’s 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship debut.
