Stanley Cup Final Opens Tuesday: Hurricanes Host Golden Knights in Game 1
The 2026 Stanley Cup Final begins Tuesday, June 2, with Game 1 at Lenovo Center in Raleigh at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. The Carolina Hurricanes host the Vegas Golden Knights, who make their third Cup Final appearance in the franchise's nine-year history. Carolina enters 12-1 in the postseason, becoming the first team to reach the Final with fewer than two losses since 1987. The goaltending matchup is elite: Frederik Andersen leads the playoffs with a .931 save percentage and a 1.44 goals-against average, while Carter Hart ranks second at .924. Vegas holds the NHL's best power play at 23.9 percent.

Andersen's Historic Playoffs Cement Conn Smythe Frontrunner Status
Frederik Andersen has delivered one of the most dominant playoff goaltending runs in NHL history, going 12-1 with a 1.44 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage — leading all goalies with at least five games played. The Carolina Hurricanes netminder has posted three shutouts and holds the franchise record for career playoff shutouts with five, surpassing Cam Ward. He is 5-0 in overtime this postseason, stopping all 33 overtime shots faced. Andersen joins Ken Dryden (1976 Canadiens) and Gerry Cheevers (1970 Bruins) as the only goalies with 12 wins through their first 13 games in a playoff year. He enters the Cup Final as the Conn Smythe frontrunner.

Marner Leads All Playoff Scorers with 21 Points, Ready for First Cup Final
Mitch Marner enters the 2026 Stanley Cup Final as the playoff scoring leader, accumulating 21 points — seven goals and 14 assists — in 16 games for the Vegas Golden Knights. He has already surpassed his previous playoff-best of 14 points, set with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2023. Marner holds a three-point lead over second-place Jack Eichel on the playoff scoring list. His high-danger shot volume has also dramatically increased, recording 16 high-danger shots on goal this postseason compared to just four in 13 games the prior year. Tortorella Makes NHL History: Back in Cup Final After 22-Year Gap
John Tortorella returns to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2004, a 22-year gap that is the longest in NHL coaching history. Hired on March 29 to replace Bruce Cassidy with just eight games remaining in the regular season, Tortorella went 7-0-1 with Vegas, clinching the Pacific Division title on April 15. The Golden Knights then defeated Utah in six games, Anaheim in six games, and swept the Presidents' Trophy-winning Colorado Avalanche in four games to reach the Final. Only two other coaches in NHL history have taken a team to the Cup Final after joining in their last 10 regular-season games.

Lauzon Returns to Golden Knights Practice, Creates Cup Final Roster Decision
Golden Knights defenseman Jeremy Lauzon returned to practice ahead of the Stanley Cup Final after missing the past two playoff rounds with an upper-body injury. Lauzon has been out of the lineup since May 1, when he took a shot to the head during the first round, and skated in a red non-contact jersey at Friday's practice session. His return creates a roster decision for Vegas, as defensemen Coghlan and Korczak each performed well through the conference finals in his absence. Lauzon registered no points in his limited playoff appearances, but his physical presence is expected to be welcomed back by the Golden Knights as they enter the Cup Final.
