Le Mans “Great Week” Kicks Off as 62-Car Field Submits to Scrutineering
The 94th 24 Hours of Le Mans is officially underway after the championship's 62-car entry began mandatory scrutineering in Le Mans city centre on Friday, June 5. The technical and administrative checks, held at Place de la République, run across two days and are free of charge for fans. The process opens with Inter Europol Competition's No. 43 LMP2 Oreca and closes Saturday with Team WRT's No. 69 BMW M4 LMGT3 Evo. All eight Hypercar manufacturers — Aston Martin, Alpine, BMW, Cadillac, Ferrari, Genesis, Peugeot and Toyota — will present their machines before the test day on June 7.

BMW's Championship-Leading No. 20 Hypercar Gets Bold Shell Helix Livery for Le Mans
BMW Team WRT has unveiled a red-and-yellow Shell Helix livery for its championship-leading No. 20 BMW M Hybrid V8 ahead of Le Mans. The refreshed design gives a bolder identity to the entry of René Rast, Robin Frijns and Sheldon van der Linde, who won BMW's first Hypercar-era victory at last month's 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. The scheme mirrors Shell-sponsored BMW GT3 entries, creating a visual link between programmes. The sister No. 15 BMW, driven by Dries Vanthoor, Raffaele Marciello and Kevin Magnussen, will retain its regular FIA WEC livery. Team WRT is running three special designs across its Hypercar and LMGT3 entries for the 24-hour classic.

Manthey Porsche Marks 30 Years with Silver Heritage Livery at Le Mans
Manthey Racing will run a one-off silver tribute livery on both its Porsche 911 LMGT3 R entries at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, marking two milestones: the team's 30th anniversary and 75 years of Porsche Motorsport. The design references the silver 1951 Porsche 356 SL Coupé that gave Porsche its first Le Mans class win. The LMGT3 championship leaders target a third consecutive class victory at Le Mans, having won in 2024 and 2025. The No. 92 The Bend Manthey entry, driven by Yasser Shahin, Riccardo Pera and Richard Lietz, leads the standings. Porsche has recorded 112 class victories in 75 consecutive years at La Sarthe.

Inter Europol Eyes WEC Hypercar Entry but Confirms 2028 as Earliest Possible Date
Inter Europol Competition, the double Le Mans-winning LMP2 squad, confirmed Friday it is pursuing a Hypercar move but considers 2028 the earliest realistic entry date. Team manager Sascha Fassbender told DailySportscar that any factory partnership is a prerequisite: “The ambition of the team is clearly to move into Hypercar with LMDh. We will only do it as a manufacturer, as I don't see a privateer financing it in the WEC.” The Polish outfit came close to fielding an Acura/HRC package in WEC for 2027, with all paperwork completed, before Honda stepped away from the programme. “On the Acura topic, it was very, very close to happening,” Fassbender said.

2026 Le Mans Hypercar Battle Shapes Up as One of the Hardest to Predict in Recent Memory
Analysis from Autosport identifies the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans as one of the most unpredictable recent editions, citing limited racing data, multiple car upgrades and newly secret Balance of Performance figures. With only 12 hours of WEC Hypercar racing completed in 2026 — compared to the expected 22 before Le Mans — organisers have fewer benchmarks to calibrate BoP. Four manufacturers have deployed performance “evo joker” upgrades for Le Mans, while all existing Hypercars have been reworked to varying degrees. New-for-2026 Michelin slick tyres incorporating 50% sustainable materials add further unknowns. Four manufacturers are considered genuine contenders for overall victory at the race scheduled for June 13–14.

ACO President Defends Decision to Keep Le Mans Balance of Performance Figures Secret
FIA and ACO officials are standing firm on their 2026 decision to stop publishing Hypercar Balance of Performance figures ahead of each race. ACO president Pierre Fillon defended the policy as Le Mans approaches: “I think we spend far too much time talking about this Balance of Performance, which is sometimes used as an excuse when you haven't won.” Fillon estimated that BoP probably accounts for only 20% or 30% of a race outcome, with strategy, driving and pit execution being more decisive. Stephane Ratel, commenting separately to Motorsport.com, said: “There is no conspiracy.” Teams are already prohibited under WEC regulations from publicly commenting on BoP.

RD Limited Makes Le Mans Debut with Romain Dumas Taking His 24th Start at La Sarthe
The No. 48 Oreca LMP2 of RD Limited will make the team's debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with co-owner Romain Dumas at the wheel. Dumas, whose career record includes overall victories for both Audi and Porsche at La Sarthe, will take part in his 24th appearance at the circuit alongside Bronze-rated Fred Poordad and Tristan Vautier. The team revealed its livery ahead of scrutineering. Meanwhile, Rolex will mark 25 years as the event's official timepiece in 2026 — the brand first assumed the role in 2001. Each of this year's outright winning drivers will receive a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona.
