Aston Martin Valkyrie Sets Le Mans Test Day Benchmark
Tom Gamble set the benchmark at Le Mans Test Day in the No. 007 Aston Martin THOR Team Valkyrie, posting a 3m26.293s lap nearly 0.6 seconds quicker than any other Hypercar across both sessions. It marked the first time an Aston Martin has led a test day since the GTE Am era in 2017. GT Report noted the Valkyrie made the most spectacular year-on-year step of any manufacturer, benefiting from consistent development gains. Le Mans 2026 Set to Feature Most Competitive Hypercar Field in History
The 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans is set to feature the most competitive Hypercar field in the event's history, according to post-Test Day analysis from Motorsport.com. A total of 362 laps below 3m30.0s were recorded across the session, more than double the 178 such laps in 2025, despite the grid comprising 18 cars compared to last year's 21. The analysis found 17 of the 18 Hypercars set best times within 1.7 seconds of one another. Toyota, Cadillac, Alpine, and Aston Martin form the leading group heading into the race, which begins at 16:00 local time on Saturday, June 13.

Ferrari Slips to Midfield as Rivals Surge at Le Mans Test Day
Reigning three-time Le Mans Hypercar winners Ferrari found themselves in the midfield at Test Day, with the best-placed No. 50 Ferrari 499P recording the eighth-fastest time at 3m27.167s, nearly four-tenths slower than the manufacturer's own benchmark from the 2025 test. While Ferrari underwent significant technical revisions before the season, the rest of the Hypercar field advanced more aggressively, leaving the Italian manufacturer defending its title from a more difficult competitive position than in any of the past three years.
