The Carolina Hurricanes need just one more victory to claim the franchise's first Stanley Cup championship since 2006, heading to T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for Game 6 on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Carolina leads the best-of-seven series 3‑2 after consecutive two-goal wins in Games 4 and 5. Captain Staal Ties NHL Record with Goals in Five Straight Stanley Cup Final Games
Carolina Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal tied the NHL record for the longest goal-scoring streak in a single Stanley Cup Final with a goal in Game 5 on Thursday, his fifth consecutive Final game with a tally. The 37-year-old has six goals in the series and seven total in the playoffs, a new career high. Staal became the first player to score in each of the first four Final games since Mike Bossy accomplished that feat with the New York Islanders in 1982. His sustained clutch play has made him the front-runner for the Conn Smythe Trophy, awarded to the playoffs' most valuable player.

Undrafted Waiver Pickup Bussi Becomes First Goalie in NHL History to Win First Two Playoff Starts in the Cup Final
Carolina Hurricanes backup goaltender Brandon Bussi made NHL history in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final Thursday, becoming the first goaltender in league history to win his first two career playoff starts in the Stanley Cup Final. Undrafted, Bussi was claimed off waivers from the Florida Panthers last October and signed a three-year, $5.7 million contract in February. He was called upon in relief of Frederik Andersen during Game 3 and has since won consecutive starts in Games 4 and 5, stopping 18 and 23 shots respectively. Bussi is expected to start Game 6 as Carolina pushes toward the championship.

Marner Sets Franchise History Record for Playoff Points in First Season with New Team
Vegas Golden Knights forward Mitch Marner leads all 2026 playoff scorers with 29 points in 21 games in his first season with the club following a sign-and-trade from the Toronto Maple Leafs. Marner set a Stanley Cup Final record in Game 3 on June 6, scoring three goals in 6 minutes and 10 seconds, the fastest hat trick in Cup Final history. He surpassed Frank Mahovlich's record of 27 playoff points by a player in his first season with a new franchise, set with the Montreal Canadiens in 1971. Despite his historic output, the Golden Knights trail the series 2‑3 heading into Sunday's Game 6.

Golden Knights Lose Center Karlsson to Injury Ahead of Elimination Game 6
The Vegas Golden Knights suffered a significant roster blow on Saturday when the team ruled out center William Karlsson for Sunday's Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final due to an injury suffered in Thursday's 4‑2 Game 5 loss. Karlsson had been an important contributor throughout the Golden Knights' run to the Final. His absence adds to the pressure on a Vegas lineup already struggling in the series. The Hurricanes lead 3‑2 and can clinch the Stanley Cup on Sunday night in Las Vegas at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. A Golden Knights win forces Game 7 in Raleigh, North Carolina on Wednesday, June 17.

Hart Sets Unwanted Cup Final Record as Golden Knights’ Goaltending Falters in Series
Golden Knights goaltender Carter Hart set an unwanted NHL record through five games of the 2026 Stanley Cup Final, becoming the first goaltender in Cup Final history to allow four or more goals in each of the first five games of a series. Hart has posted an .856 save percentage and a 3.70 goals-against average against the Carolina Hurricanes. The 27-year-old entered the Final with a .924 save percentage in the earlier playoff rounds, second best among all postseason goalies, but has been unable to replicate that form against Carolina. Vegas will need a much-improved performance from Hart in Sunday's Game 6 to keep its season alive.

Red Wings Captain Larkin Requests Trade, Rattling Detroit and Shaking the Offseason
Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin, 29, has requested a trade from Detroit, according to multiple reports. Larkin, who holds a full no-trade clause on his eight-year, $69.6 million contract, submitted a three-team preferred trade list naming Vegas, Minnesota, and Florida as his desired destinations. Detroit general manager Steve Yzerman subsequently asked Larkin's camp to expand the list beyond those three teams, and it is believed to have grown somewhat. The trade request comes as Detroit's playoff drought has extended to 10 consecutive seasons, the longest in the franchise's history.
