AI Coding Agents Are Fueling Burnout Among Silicon Valley’s Tech Workers, Bloomberg Reports
A Bloomberg investigation published June 26 profiles Silicon Valley tech workers struggling to disconnect as AI coding agents create an always-on work culture. The report centers on Matt Van Horn, a serial entrepreneur and father of four, who keeps more than a half-dozen Anthropic Claude Code agents running at all times. The agents prompt Van Horn for direction every ten minutes or so—while he’s at his children’s soccer practice, during school drop-off, and on family vacations. When he goes to sleep, one agent steps in to babysit the others. Bloomberg reports that AI-driven burnout of this kind is spreading across Silicon Valley’s tech workforce.
TrueUp Tracker: 421 Tech Layoffs in 2026 Have Eliminated Nearly 158,000 Jobs
The TrueUp Tech Layoffs Tracker, updated June 26, shows that 421 layoff events at technology companies in 2026 have affected 157,807 workers—a rate of approximately 892 people per day. The most recent entry on the tracker is CompanyCam, a photo and communication app for contractors, which conducted layoffs on June 26. Other recent additions include Oracle Romania, which cut 500 employees on June 25, and Culture Amp, which eliminated 70 positions—9 percent of its workforce—the same day. The tracker currently lists 262,386 open tech jobs across startups and large technology companies.
