Star Canadian pass catcher Samuel Emilus did not return after having his legs twisted under him while returning a punt late in the second quarter of Friday night’s 40-34 loss to the Toronto Argonauts. Alouettes Coach Jason Maas Contests Overtime Fumble Call: “It Was Our Ball”
Montreal Alouettes head coach Jason Maas publicly disputed a key overtime fumble ruling from last week’s 32-29 overtime loss to the Edmonton Elks. After reviewing game film, Maas told reporters: “When I look at the film, what I would judge it off of, I would say it was our ball.” The disputed play came when Montreal’s Najee Murray forced a fumble from Edmonton’s Justin Rankin in overtime, but officials ruled that offensive lineman Brendan Bordner was the last player to touch the ball before it went out of bounds, not Montreal safety Nate Beauchemin. Maas acknowledged the ruling stood and that the Alouettes had chances to win afterward.

Redblacks Simplify Playbook and Reshape QB Room Ahead of Sunday Night Visit to Montreal
The Ottawa Redblacks (0-2) enter Sunday’s game in Montreal with a simplified playbook after head coach Ryan Dinwiddie cut his usual 90-play package to roughly 50 this week. The change follows quarterback Dru Brown’s trade to Winnipeg after Brown requested a move when Dinwiddie named Jake Maier as the starter out of training camp. Through two starts, Maier has completed 61 percent of his passes at 6.3 yards per attempt with two touchdowns and two interceptions — both figures ranking as CFL lows. Ottawa has also added veteran McLeod Bethel-Thompson to the roster for quarterback depth.
