How to Play FLW (Five Letter Words)
The goal
Guess the secret 5-letter word in six shots or fewer. After each guess, the tiles show how close you are.
Reading the colors
- Blue — right letter in the right spot.
- Orange — the letter is in the word, but in a different spot.
- Slate — the letter is not in the word.
- Repeated letters are scored letter-by-letter: a letter lights up only as many times as it appears in the answer.
Controls
- Type on your keyboard or tap the on-screen keys; Enter submits, Backspace deletes.
- Guesses must be real words — the game checks them against a dictionary of about 18,000 five-letter words (far more than can ever be answers). Gibberish is rejected without costing a shot.
- Hard mode is always on: every hint you’ve earned must be used. Blue letters must stay in their spot, and orange letters must appear in your next guess. Rejected guesses never cost a shot.
Finishing
The timer stops when you find the word (or run out of shots — then the answer is revealed). One new word every morning; recent words are in the archive after their day has passed.

Where the words come from
Answers are drawn uniformly at random from a pool of about 2,400 five-letter words chosen purely by how often they appear in everyday English — no editor picks them. That means probability strategy actually works: common letters and patterns really are more likely, and plurals and word forms appear at their natural rates.
