Boeing Opens Everett North Line, First 737 Production Outside Renton Since 1970
Boeing loaded the first 737 Max 10 fuselage onto its new “North Line” assembly facility at Everett, Washington, on July 6, marking the first 737 production outside the Renton plant since consolidation there in 1970. The $1 billion fourth assembly line represents the single largest expansion of 737 manufacturing capacity in decades, intended to support FAA authorization to build up to 47 aircraft per month by 2027 and eventually 52 per month. The initial airframe, destined for WestJet, is a low-rate production aircraft; the line will initially handle Max 8 and Max 9 variants before transitioning to Max 10 exclusivity. AAIB: 737 Max 8 Crew Failed to Update Thrust Data After Switching to Intersection Departure at Luton
UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch investigators determined that the crew of an Ascend Airways Boeing 737 Max 8 failed to update performance data after switching from a full-length runway departure to an intersection departure at London Luton in April 2025. The crew accepted an intersection A departure from runway 25, reducing available runway distance to 1,771 metres — 345 metres less than the full length — without entering revised V-speeds into the flight management computer. Maximum thrust during the roll was 82.1% against a required 85.2%, and the aircraft lifted off 162 metres from the runway end with 162 passengers and six crew aboard. No injuries occurred.

KLM A321neo Tail-Strike Probe Transferred to Dutch Safety Board After Lisbon Landing Damage
Portuguese investigation authority GPIAAF has transferred responsibility for the probe into a KLM Airbus A321neo tail-strike at Lisbon on June 16 to the Dutch Safety Board. The aircraft, PH-AXB, sustained structural damage to its aft fuselage underside during landing and was removed from service for damage assessment and repair. No occupants were injured. Portuguese investigators determined the event was “contained in nature” based on landing dynamics, flight recorder data, and crew information, and elected to transfer the investigation given that KLM is a Dutch operator. Aft fuselage tail-strikes require detailed composite and metallic structure inspection to rule out internal delamination and frame damage not visible externally.

Rolls-Royce Designates XWB-84 EP as Sole A350-900 Engine Offering After 1.8% Fuel Burn Confirmation

GKN and University of Nottingham Form HPDrive Technologies to Commercialise Cryogenic Electric Motors
GKN Aerospace and the University of Nottingham have established a joint venture, HPDrive Technologies, to commercialise cryogenic-cooled superconducting electric motors developed under the UK-funded H2GEAR hydrogen propulsion programme.
