Moonshot AI Releases Kimi K3, the World’s Largest Open-Source Model, Challenging U.S. Frontier Leaders
Moonshot AI, the Beijing-based startup backed by Alibaba, released Kimi K3 on July 17 — a 2.8-trillion-parameter model the company says is now the world’s largest open-source AI. The release, timed to land ahead of the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, marks a significant escalation in the global AI race. K3 features a 1-million-token context window, native visual understanding, and an always-on thinking mode. On GDPval-AA v2, a benchmark measuring real-world tasks across 44 occupations, K3 scored 1,687, placing it third globally behind Claude Fable 5 Max and GPT-5.6 Sol Max. Agility Robotics Opens 60,000 sq ft Fremont Facility Just Up the Highway from Tesla’s Optimus Factory
Agility Robotics opened a 60,000-square-foot training and development facility in Fremont, California on Friday, positioning it just up the highway from the factory where Tesla is expected to start manufacturing its Optimus humanoid robots this year. Agility’s bipedal robot Digit already generates revenue in warehouse and manufacturing environments for customers including Amazon, GXO, Schaeffler, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada. The Fremont site will be used to train Digit in real-world physical conditions to accelerate its readiness for broader industrial deployment. Agility is also planning to go public via SPAC in a $2.5 billion deal.
