Mahomes Fully Cleared for Training Camp, Sets Sights on Week 1 Return
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been fully cleared to participate in training camp, clearing the biggest hurdle of his rehabilitation from the torn ACL and LCL he suffered against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15 of the 2025 season. Head coach Andy Reid confirmed the clearance on Friday, citing approval from the Chiefs’ medical staff and surgeon Dr. Dan Cooper. Mahomes, who underwent surgery the day after the December 14 injury, said he feels “amazing” and aims to start Week 1 of the 2026 season. Wide receiver Rashee Rice, recovering from a knee debridement procedure, has also been cleared for full participation, Reid said.
Panthers Lose Nic Scourton to Torn ACL on First Day of Training Camp
The Carolina Panthers lost outside linebacker Nic Scourton to a torn ACL on the opening day of training camp Thursday when the second-year player was carted off the field with a right knee injury. An MRI confirmed the torn ACL, and the Panthers placed Scourton on injured reserve Friday, ending his season before it started. The former 51st overall pick out of Texas A&M in the 2025 NFL Draft tied Derrick Brown for the team lead in sacks as a rookie with five, despite making just eight official starts. Carolina had counted on Scourton as a top pass rusher opposite free-agent addition Jaelan Phillips.

Panthers Sign UFL Defensive Player of the Year Cam Gill After Scourton Injury
Hours after losing Nic Scourton to a torn ACL, the Carolina Panthers signed linebacker Cam Gill to bolster their pass rush. Gill was named the UFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2026 after helping lead the Louisville Kings to the UFL Championship, recording 11 sacks across 12 appearances and shattering the league’s single-season sack record. He also registered 48 tackles and 14 tackles for loss. A former Super Bowl champion, Gill is returning to Carolina for his third stint with the organization, having previously spent time on the Panthers roster and practice squad in 2024.
Ravens Cut Heisman Runner-Up Diego Pavia Before Rookie Camp Opens
The Baltimore Ravens released quarterback Diego Pavia on Thursday, one day before rookies were scheduled to report to training camp. Pavia, the Heisman Trophy runner-up last season at Vanderbilt and an undrafted free agent who signed with Baltimore in April, had hoped to compete for the third quarterback spot behind two-time MVP Lamar Jackson and veteran Tyler Huntley. The Ravens waived Pavia to make room for center Ethan Pocic, who signed with the team the same day. Skylar Thompson and Joe Fagnano will now compete for the backup slot behind Jackson and Huntley in Baltimore’s quarterback room.

DeAndre Hopkins Visits Patriots Camp in Coaching Capacity, Mulls Career Transition
Free-agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins visited the New England Patriots this week to explore a potential transition to coaching, head coach Mike Vrabel confirmed Friday. Hopkins, a 13-year veteran who has not signed with a team this offseason, arrived at Patriots training camp wearing coaching gear and worked alongside offensive coaches while meeting with personnel staff. “He’s got coaching gear on, and he is helping out the offensive coaches and meeting with our personnel guys,” Vrabel told reporters. Rams Unveil ‘Classic Sol’ and ‘Fearsome White’ Throwback Alternate Uniforms for 2026
The Los Angeles Rams unveiled two new alternate uniforms Thursday evening, celebrating two defining chapters in franchise history with throwback-inspired designs. The “Classic Sol” uniform — a gold jersey paired with white pants — commemorates the club’s 1951 NFL Championship team on the occasion of that title’s 75th anniversary. The “Fearsome White” set, featuring an all-white jersey with blue rams horns arching over both shoulders, honors the iconic Fearsome Foursome defensive line of the 1960s and early 1970s, a look the Rams have not worn since 1972. Both new alternates will be worn during prime-time games in the 2026 season.
