FAA Issues AD 2026-14090 Correcting 737 MAX Cabin Overheating Checklist

The FAA published AD 2026-14090 on July 13, superseding a directive containing a formatting error that omitted part of the corrected flight manual appendix. The AD covers Boeing 737 MAX 8, MAX 9, and MAX 8-200 airplanes and takes effect July 16. The underlying safety issue involves the standby power control unit: if a specific circuit breaker trips, an erroneous electrical ground signal drives ram air door actuators closed, blocking cooling airflow to environmental control system heat exchangers. Hot engine bleed air then reaches the cabin and flight deck at dangerous temperatures. Airlines must add corrected non-normal checklists to their flight manuals. Some 825 aircraft are affected.

Boeing Opens 737 MAX North Line at Everett in Biggest Assembly Shift Since 1970

Boeing has launched full final assembly of the 737 MAX at a new North Line within its Everett widebody factory, the first time in more than 50 years the narrowbody jet has been assembled outside Renton. FlightGlobal confirmed on July 13 that the airframer began populating production stations at the Everett site following the ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 10. The $1 billion North Line occupies 10 production stations on the east side of the Everett facility, with wings ferried from Renton via the 737 Wing Transport Tool. Boeing intends the fourth 737 MAX assembly line to help it reach a production target of 52 aircraft per month across all sites.

SibNIA Advances An-2 Modernisation After Securing Updated Type Certificate

Russia’s Siberian Aviation Research Institute SibNIA has secured an updated type certificate from federal regulator Rosaviatsia for the Soviet-era Antonov An-2 biplane, enabling the institute to pursue structural and systems modernisation of the 78-year-old design. SibNIA director Vladimir Barsuk identified priorities including improved passenger seats, approval of cabin and fuel system modifications, and refined flight control systems. The updated certificate also legitimises production of new spare parts and governs repair work on airframes still in service. SibNIA—formally designated the An-2’s authorised design bureau in 2015—previously developed re-engined variants featuring the Honeywell TPE331, and is now targeting Russian engine options for future modifications.

AAIB Wrestles With Scant Clues in Fatal Zeusch King Air Crash Investigation

UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch investigators continue to struggle with severely limited physical evidence in their inquiry into the fatal Zeusch Aviation King Air crash at Southend Airport on July 14, 2025. The Beechcraft B200 Super King Air yawed left on rotation, entered a climbing left turn reaching 70–80 feet, then rolled close to inverted before descending into the perimeter, killing all four occupants. The aircraft carried no cockpit voice or flight data recorder. With the airframe destroyed by impact and post-crash fire, the AAIB has relied on ADS-B data, surveillance footage, and witness video to reconstruct the flightpath. No structural, engine, or control system cause has been established.

Qantas A321 Freighter Makes First-Ever Landing at Western Sydney International Airport

A converted Airbus A321 operated by Qantas Freight became the first freighter aircraft to land at Western Sydney International Airport when cargo trial operations began on July 13. The aircraft flew from Sydney’s main Kingsford Smith Airport to runway 23 at the new facility as part of a validation exercise covering aircraft handling, ground operations, airside coordination, and cargo transfer procedures under live conditions. Qantas will operate from a 24,000-square-metre freight terminal at the site. Regular domestic freighter services are scheduled to begin July 27, 2026. At full Stage One capacity the facility is designed to handle up to 220,000 tonnes of freight annually.
