Left uncorrected, the failure mode risks tail boom separation and loss of flight control. NPRM 2026-14238, published July 15 in the Federal Register, would require repetitive inspections of the tail boom attachment structure, torque inspections of the fasteners, and replacement of attachment hardware. Approximately 950 U.S.-registered helicopters are affected. A detailed inspection of the complete tail boom assembly would serve as a terminating action, replacing the repetitive inspection requirement once completed.

FAA Proposes Stricter Life Limits for Rolls-Royce BR700-725A1-12 Engine Rotating Parts

The FAA has proposed an airworthiness directive requiring operators of Rolls-Royce Deutschland BR700-725A1-12 engines to incorporate new, more restrictive airworthiness limitations and associated thresholds and intervals for life-limited rotating parts. NPRM 2026-14281, published July 15 in the Federal Register, follows Rolls-Royce revising its airworthiness limitations section after identifying the need for updated life limits. Approximately 758 U.S.-registered engines are affected. Compliance would be required within 30 days of the effective date. Failure to incorporate the revised limitations could result in the failure of one or more engines, loss of thrust control, and loss of the airplane. Comments are due by August 31, 2026.

Vertical Aerospace has reported that full transition flights of its VX4 eVTOL prototype are now “almost routine,” with accumulated test data matching expectations and strengthening the company’s confidence in its certification pathway. The milestone is significant for the engineering team, which must demonstrate reliable power management and control surface integration during the conversion between hover and wing-borne flight modes. Test pilot Paul Stone has completed multiple transitions, with data described as validating the aircraft’s design predictions. A public demonstration is planned for the Farnborough Airshow later this month. The VX4 is targeting certification by 2029, which would support entry into commercial service by 2030.

Malta Air 737-800 Window Loss Echoes 2018 Southwest Airlines Incident

A Malta Air Boeing 737-800 (registration 9H-QEU) suffered a passenger window loss on July 10, 2026, following an apparent right-hand engine anomaly during cruise over the Greek–North Macedonian border. The FlightGlobal report draws comparisons to the 2018 Southwest Airlines incident, in which a CFM56 full-length blade failure caused a fan cowl latch keeper to strike a cabin window, fatally injuring a passenger. GE Aerospace has contracted StandardAero to build and support 46 CT7-2E1 turboshaft engines, plus an undisclosed quantity of spare engines, to power the United Kingdom’s new AW149 battlefield transport helicopter fleet, which is being assembled by Leonardo Helicopters at its Yeovil facility. The agreement, disclosed on July 14, 2026, assigns StandardAero full repair and maintenance responsibility for the engines across the fleet’s operational service life. “The CT7 engine’s track record as a highly reliable, workhorse powerplant is indisputable,” said Breanne Escalante, GE Aerospace’s general manager of rotorcraft and turboprop engines.

GetJet Airlines Investing in In-House MRO Capabilities to Reduce External Provider Dependence

Lithuanian wet-lease carrier GetJet Airlines is investing in in-house maintenance, repair, and overhaul capabilities to reduce its dependence on external MRO providers, the company announced July 14 alongside its 2025 annual financial results. GetJet operates a fleet of 20 Airbus A320-family and Boeing 737 narrowbodies for ACMI partners including Etihad Airways and Eurowings. The carrier has previously disclosed plans to establish a dedicated maintenance facility at Vilnius airport, complementing its existing MRO centre at Siauliai International. GetJet secured $31 million in financing from Volofin Capital Management in April 2026. The company reported a 2025 net profit of €9.4 million on revenues of €165 million.
