Narváez Powers to Solo Stage 8 Victory at Fermo, UAE's Stage Tally Grows
Jhonatan Narváez (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) claimed his second stage win at the 2026 Giro d'Italia on Saturday, soloing to victory on the hilly Tappe dei Muri stage 8 from Chieti to Fermo. The Ecuadorian attacked from a three-rider breakaway that also included teammate Mikkel Bjerg and Andreas Leknessund (Uno-X Mobility). Narváez struck on the penultimate Capodarco climb with 10 kilometres remaining, building a 32-second margin over Leknessund by the uphill finish. The GC favourites were held in check by Visma-Lease a Bike, leaving Afonso Eulálio's pink jersey lead intact heading into the second rest day on Sunday.

Eulálio Commands Giro GC on Rest Day with 3:15 Cushion Over Vingegaard
Portugal's Afonso Eulálio (Bahrain Victorious) heads into the Giro d'Italia's second rest day on Sunday firmly in command of the maglia rosa, leading Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) by 3 minutes 15 seconds and Felix Gall (Decathlon CMA CGM) by 3 minutes 34 seconds. Eulálio vaulted 30 places into the pink jersey with a stage 5 breakaway raid into Potenza and survived the Blockhaus summit test on stage 7, where Vingegaard took the win. Crashes Freed UAE Emirates: How a Five-Man Giro Squad Became a Stage-Hunting Machine
UAE Team Emirates-XRG arrived at the 2026 Giro d'Italia with eight riders, lost three in a stage 2 crash, and have since operated as a diminished but ferociously effective five-man stage-hunting unit. Narváez has won stages 3 and 8, Igor Arrieta triumphed on stage 5, and the team's tactical flexibility has compensated for the early loss of GC contenders. “It's about having nothing to lose,” one team insider told Cyclingnews. The crashes that stripped the squad of its original GC ambitions have paradoxically liberated riders to attack on every terrain, making UAE one of the most prolific stage-winning teams despite their reduced numbers.

Włodarczyk Earns First WorldTour Win on Itzulia Women Stage 2; Bredewold Keeps GC Lead
Dominika Włodarczyk (UAE Team ADQ) claimed her maiden Women's WorldTour victory on stage 2 of Itzulia Women on Saturday, holding off race leader Mischa Bredewold (SD Worx-Protime) in a tactical finale from Abaño to Amorebieta-Etxano over 138 kilometres. The Polish rider timed her move perfectly, outsprinting Bredewold and Shirin van Anrooij (Lidl-Trek) to seal the biggest result of her career. Bredewold retained the overall leader's jersey with a slim margin ahead of Sunday's final stage in Donostia. The three-day Basque Country stage race has produced open, aggressive racing across all three stages.

Barrenetxea Edges Molenaar in Quimper to Win Tour du Finistère for Movistar
Jon Barrenetxea (Movistar Team) edged Alex Molenaar (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) on a high-speed uphill finish in Quimper on Saturday to win the 2026 Tour du Finistère, with Clément Venturini (Unibet Rose Rockets) completing the podium in third. Barrenetxea, a 23-year-old Basque sprinter-puncher, timed his acceleration precisely on the steepening gradient into the city centre, arriving first by a wheel. The Breton one-day race attracted a strong mid-season field while the Giro d'Italia's peloton rested ahead of the race's second rest day. It marks the first victory of 2026 for Movistar Team in a one-day race.

Corno alle Scale Looms as Giro's Next GC Verdict: Stage 9 Preview
Monday's stage 9 of the Giro d'Italia from Cervia to Corno alle Scale (184 kilometres) could reshape the general classification before Tuesday's second rest day. After a flat opening two-thirds of the route, riders face 2,400 metres of climbing packed into the final 30 kilometres, culminating in a 13-kilometre ascent to the summit finish in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike), who won on Blockhaus on stage 7, is expected to test race leader Afonso Eulálio's (Bahrain Victorious) 3:15 advantage. Felix Gall, Ben O'Connor, and Egan Bernal are among those hoping to exploit any weakness on the mountain.
