2027 Silly Season Scoreboard: Who’s Safe and Who’s Not
The 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season is barely at its halfway mark and the 2027 driver market is already moving. According to FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass, most top-line seats are settled: Alex Palou and Kyffin Simpson appear safe at Chip Ganassi Racing, and Scott McLaughlin, David Malukas, and Josef Newgarden are locked in at Team Penske. The unsettled zones are real, however. Marcus Ericsson has no deal at Andretti Global with Dennis Hauger waiting in the wings. Nolan Siegel and Christian Lundgaard are both unsigned at Arrow McLaren. Mick Schumacher’s future at Rahal Letterman Lanigan is uncertain, and Rinus VeeKay may attract outside interest.
Three Teams Are in the Race to Sign Felix Rosenqvist for 2027
Felix Rosenqvist became the first reigning Indianapolis 500 winner to leave his team in the same season since Takuma Sato in 2017, and now three teams appear most likely to land him for 2027. Andretti Global leads the race, with Marcus Ericsson in a contract year and no extension in sight. Arrow McLaren remains a real option: Rosenqvist drove there from 2021 to 2023 and retains a close friendship with Pato O’Ward. Chip Ganassi Racing is the longest shot, as the team’s existing technical partnership with Meyer Shank Racing would make a direct signing awkward.

Arrow McLaren Faces Its Biggest Roster Shake-Up: Both Drivers Unsigned
Arrow McLaren faces the most significant roster transformation of any IndyCar team heading into 2027. Nolan Siegel is widely expected to lose his seat after two-plus years of below-expectation results, and Christian Lundgaard remains unsigned despite sitting fourth in the championship. According to FOX Sports, McLaren is weighing the possibility of signing both Scott Dixon and Felix Rosenqvist, which would push Lundgaard out entirely. Beyond the Flag notes that Siegel is most definitely out. Lundgaard would have no shortage of suitors: Chip Ganassi Racing would be the likeliest landing spot in a Dixon-for-Lundgaard exchange.

Will Power Has Led Laps in Five Races. He Sits 14th in Points.
Will Power’s debut season at Andretti Global has become one of IndyCar’s most puzzling storylines. The former IndyCar champion has led laps in five of the first ten races — tied for second in the field alongside Christian Lundgaard — yet sits 14th in the points standings. Power made the move to Andretti after 17 seasons at Team Penske, and while his fundamental speed remains intact, converting pace into finishes has proved elusive. According to FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass, Power is not expected to lose his seat for 2027 despite the frustrating results so far this year.
Marcus Ericsson Has No 2027 Deal — and Dennis Hauger Is Waiting
Marcus Ericsson faces a pivotal off-season to retain his Andretti Global seat for 2027. The Indianapolis 500 winner sits ninth in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES standings with 213 points but has not secured an extension with the team. Meanwhile, Dennis Hauger — currently on loan to Dale Coyne Racing, where he is 19th in points — is understood to be part of Andretti’s 2027 plans and waiting in the wings. According to FOX Sports, the Ericsson picture also depends on what happens elsewhere: if Felix Rosenqvist signs with Andretti, Ericsson’s position in the team would become untenable.
Marcus Armstrong Is Meyer Shank Racing’s Top Priority Amid Roster Overhaul
Marcus Armstrong is providing Meyer Shank Racing a rare constant amid a rapidly shifting driver roster. The New Zealander sits 11th in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES standings with 203 points and is, according to FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass, on the brink of winning races. MSR’s primary focus for the off-season will be keeping Armstrong, who has emerged as a legitimate future race winner, while finding a replacement for Felix Rosenqvist. FOX Sports reports MSR’s first call will be to Christian Lundgaard if he becomes available from Arrow McLaren, with a former Ganassi driver also a possibility given the teams’ technical alliance.
IROC Returns as Support Race at IndyCar’s Freedom 250 in Washington D.C.
IndyCar has confirmed an IROC support race as part of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix weekend in Washington D.C. on August 23. The exhibition event will feature Indianapolis 500 winners Helio Castroneves, Dario Franchitti, and Tony Kanaan competing alongside NASCAR legends. The Freedom 250, which runs on a purpose-built street circuit with the start-finish line in front of the U.S. Capitol, is the centrepiece of IndyCar’s contribution to the United States’ 250th birthday celebrations. FOX Sports reports President Trump is expected to attend the event, which was enabled after an executive order fast-tracked the necessary infrastructure work.
Nashville IndyCar Race Gets the World Cup Final as Its Lead-In on FOX
The July 19 NTT INDYCAR SERIES race at Nashville Superspeedway is poised to replicate the television event that Road America became on June 21, when 1.8 million viewers tuned in after IndyCar followed a FIFA World Cup match on FOX. Nashville will air immediately after the World Cup Final on the same network, giving IndyCar another enormous lead-in audience at the sport’s single biggest broadcast moment of the summer. Viewing parties and concerts are planned around the Nashville event. FOX Sports notes the specific World Cup finalists on the day could also drive audience from those nations’ fan bases to tune in.

The 2027 Job Seekers: Daly, Ilott, DeFrancesco, and Lundqvist Are All in the Hunt
Beyond the confirmed departures and unsettled seats among IndyCar’s established teams, a cohort of experienced drivers is working actively to secure full-time rides for 2027. Conor Daly has spent 2026 building the sponsorship partnerships needed to return to the grid, and his solid Indianapolis 500 run reinforced his case. Callum Ilott remains under contract with Prema Racing but has not competed in 2026 because the team has not fielded cars. Devlin DeFrancesco is also seeking a path back to IndyCar. And 2024’s top rookie Linus Lundqvist is still awaiting a full-season opportunity to prove himself.
