Nickm324 turns Cheap Yellow Display into mini television with SD card channels
Nickm324 has transformed the Cheap Yellow Display (CYD) into a mini television. The CYD is an all-in-one ESP32 board featuring a touchscreen. This project builds on prior ESP32 developments. It utilizes the CYD’s BOOT button for a single-button interface. Users select channels stored on an SD card. The system plays synchronized .mjpeg video and audio files. This format limitation likely stems from the older ESP32 chip. The display is housed in a retro 3D-printed case. The case design is not linked in the source repository. The hack requires minimal wiring. Jenny List reported the project on September 17, 2026. The work is tagged under home entertainment hacks.
Flock Safety cameras suffer critical security flaws in outdated operating system
Surveillance cameras from Flock Safety suffer critical security flaws, according to a September 17, 2026 Hackaday report by Jenny List. This outdated operating system contains known vulnerabilities that remain unpatched. Micah Lee provided insights into the system’s architecture. The cameras expose a hard-coded, open-access API key. Attackers can exploit this key using a camera’s MAC address to extract data. Law enforcement abuse of access has already occurred, including one instance where disk contents were dumped.
