Swanson's Walk-Off Single in 10th Extends Cubs' Win Streak to 9, Phillies Fall to 9 Straight Losses

Dansby Swanson delivered his first game-ending hit in five years Thursday, singling off Tanner Banks in the 10th inning to give the Chicago Cubs an 8-7 walk-off victory over the Philadelphia Phillies at Wrigley Field. The win pushed Chicago's winning streak to nine games — their longest since an 11-game run in 2016 — while Philadelphia dropped its ninth straight, the longest losing streak in franchise history since 2018. Michael Busch homered for three runs and four RBI, and Seiya Suzuki homered in three consecutive games. The Phillies haven't lost 10 consecutive games since 1999. Javier Assad (2-1) earned the win.

Schlittler Holds Red Sox to 4 Hits Over 8 Innings as Yankees Complete Sweep, Extend Win Streak to Six

Cam Schlittler, a Red Sox fan growing up in Weymouth, Massachusetts, held his childhood team to four hits over eight innings Thursday as the New York Yankees rallied for a 4-2 win at Fenway Park, completing a three-game sweep and stretching their winning streak to six. Schlittler (3-1) struck out five and lowered his ERA to 1.77. Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit his first homer of the season — a 333-foot shot around the Pesky Pole — then Cody Bellinger's two-run single off Greg Weissert in the seventh gave New York a lead they wouldn't relinquish. David Bedner earned his seventh save.

Atlanta right-hander JR Ritchie allowed a home run on the very first pitch of his major league career Thursday, then settled in to throw seven impressive innings as the Braves defeated the Washington Nationals 7-2 at Nationals Park. The 22-year-old, selected 35th overall in the 2022 draft, surrendered James Wood's leadoff shot — Wood's NL-leading 10th home run of the season — before striking out seven and walking two over 89 pitches.
