Braves Combine on One-Hitter to Beat Cubs, Extend MLB-Best Record to 29-13

Grant Holmes combined with three relievers on a one-hitter, Austin Riley and Mike Yastrzemski hit back-to-back home runs, and the Atlanta Braves topped the Chicago Cubs 5-2 Tuesday night to extend their major league-best record to 29-13. Dominic Smith went 4-for-4 and scored twice as Atlanta opened a three-game NL Central showdown series. Yastrzemski was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, including a two-run shot in the fifth inning that landed in front of the Chop House restaurant in right field. Colin Rea took the loss for Chicago, allowing five runs on seven hits. Dylan Lee pitched a clean eighth and Raisel Iglesias earned his seventh save.

Rays Win 6th Straight Series on Walls Walk-Off, McClanahan Extends Scoreless Streak to 21 2/3

Taylor Walls put the Rays ahead with a walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning, and Jonathan Aranda followed with a sacrifice fly as Tampa Bay edged Toronto 7-6 on Tuesday night for its 16th win in 18 games. The AL-best Rays are now 28-13 and have won six straight series. Shane McClanahan struck out seven and allowed just one hit in five shutout innings, extending his scoreless streak to 21 2/3 innings. Ryan Vidale hit his second home run and Cedric Mullins drove in two runs for Tampa Bay. Ian Seymour earned the win while Garrett Cleavinger picked up his first career save.

Schwarber Homers in 5th Straight Game, Wheeler Delivers as Phillies Top Red Sox 2-1

Kyle Schwarber homered for the fifth consecutive game, tying a Phillies record with his major league-high 17th home run, and Zack Wheeler delivered 7 1/3 sharp innings as Philadelphia beat Boston 2-1 on Tuesday night. The win was also Don Mattingly’s 900th as a major league manager and gave the Phillies their fourth consecutive series victory. Schwarber led off the first inning with a 386-foot shot to deep right field and Bryson Stott added an RBI double in the second. Wheeler allowed one run on six hits, striking out four. The Red Sox cut the deficit on a Ceddanne Rafaela RBI single but could not complete the comeback.

Giants Back-to-Back HRs Sink Slumping Dodgers for 4th Straight Loss

Harrison Bader and Eric Haase homered back-to-back in the fifth inning as San Francisco beat Los Angeles 6-2 Tuesday night, extending the Dodgers’ losing streak to four. Bader’s two-strike homer was his first since March 30 and gave the Giants a 2-1 lead before Haase went deep again to make it 3-1. Adrian Houser pitched 5 2/3 innings for the win while Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up five runs in 6 1/3 innings. Shohei Ohtani homered for Los Angeles, his first since April 26. The Dodgers have scored three runs or fewer in 10 of their last 13 games and have lost 9 of 13 in that stretch.

Nationals Launch Six Home Runs to Rout Reds 10-4 as Cincy Skid Reaches Nine

James Wood crushed his 12th home run of the season, and Luis Garcia Jr. and Daylen Lile each went deep twice as Washington launched six home runs in a 10-4 rout of Cincinnati on Tuesday. Wood’s two-run blast in the second put the Nationals ahead 3-0 and they never trailed. Garcia Jr. homered in the third and sixth innings while Lile connected in the fourth and seventh to cap the offensive outburst. The Reds have lost nine of their last eleven games following a promising start to the season. Washington improved to 21-22 with the win and has taken two straight from Cincinnati.

Ewing Dazzles in MLB Debut as Mets Roll Tigers 10-2

A.J. Ewing made a memorable major league debut, contributing an RBI, a triple, and a stolen base as the New York Mets routed the Detroit Tigers 10-2 before 36,382 fans at Citi Field on Tuesday night. Starter Freddy Peralta pitched six strong innings as the Mets built an early double-digit lead. Ewing’s performance at the plate and on the bases gave the offense an immediate spark in his first big-league game. Ober Throws First Career Shutout, Buxton Steals Home as Twins Blank Marlins 3-0

Bailey Ober pitched a two-hit shutout, his first career complete game, as Minnesota blanked Miami 3-0 on Tuesday in a performance highlighted by Byron Buxton stealing home in the third inning and Ryan Jeffers launching a two-run homer in the fourth. Ober retired 14 of the final 15 batters he faced, cruising through Miami’s lineup and striking out five. Buxton’s steal of home came on a front-end double steal that caught the Marlins’ defense completely off guard. The win moved the Twins to 20-22 while Miami fell to 19-23, as the Marlins’ slow start continues to deepen the gap with NL East-leading Atlanta.

Joey Ortiz homered and drove in two runs, and Sal Frelick’s bases-loaded single in the fourth inning proved decisive as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated San Diego 6-4 on Tuesday for their fifth straight win. The Brewers have won 10 of their last 12, keeping pace in a stacked NL Central where all five teams own winning records. Frelick’s two-run single snapped a 2-2 tie and gave Milwaukee a lead they never surrendered. The Brewers improved to 26-16, one game behind division-leading Chicago. The Padres dropped to 24-19 with the loss as Fernando Tatis Jr. continues to search for his first home run of May.
