Toyota Marks 100th WEC Race with Historic 50th Victory at Imola
Toyota Racing scored its 50th FIA WEC victory at the 2026 season-opening 6 Hours of Imola on April 19, also marking the programme's 100th hybrid-powered start. The No. 8 TR010 Hybrid of Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley, and Ryō Hirakawa won by 13.352 seconds over Ferrari's pole-sitting No. 51. Antonio Giovinazzi had secured hyperpole for Ferrari, and the 499P ran at the front before Toyota's strategy proved decisive: the No. 8 crew extended its stint then switched tyres under a Virtual Safety Car, protecting track position at minimal cost. Conway, Kobayashi, and de Vries in the No. 7 Toyota completed the podium. A record 92,175 fans attended.

Acura Confirms IMSA GTP Programme Pause After 2026 Season
Honda Racing Corporation USA confirmed the Acura ARX-06 factory GTP programme will pause following the 2026 IMSA season. The announcement on April 22 came four days after Acura Meyer Shank Racing won the Grand Prix of Long Beach. HRC cited an expanded IndyCar commitment as the primary reason, with Acura branding set to appear on Meyer Shank Racing's Indy cars at selected 2026 events, including the 110th Indianapolis 500 in May. Acura compiled 25 wins, 34 pole positions, and 10 championships during its IMSA tenure. No return timeline was provided, though the deliberate use of "pause" leaves the door open for a future comeback.

The LMH-powered Valkyrie remains at 1,030 kg and 520 kW — believed to be at the minimum weight the LMH technical regulations permit. While competitors received adjustments, Porsche and BMW faced the less favourable outcome, with sportscar365.com reporting both marques were slowed relative to Acura and Cadillac. Porsche Penske Motorsport won both the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring to lead the GTP standings heading into the 160-minute Laguna Seca sprint on May 3.
