Kyle Shanahan Injured in Car Crash, Will Have Limited Role at 49ers Camp
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan will begin training camp in a limited capacity after sustaining significant injuries in a July 14 car accident in Northern California. Shanahan broke his nose, three ribs and a hand, required more than 40 stitches and is managing a concussion with lingering effects. Assistant head coach Chris Foerster is expected to assume some head coaching duties during Shanahan’s recovery. General manager John Lynch said Saturday the injuries are non-life-threatening and that Shanahan is making progress. Lynch added the club does not expect Shanahan to miss the 49ers’ regular-season opener.

Mahomes Cleared for Full Camp Practice Over Seven Months After ACL and LCL Tears
Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid confirmed Friday that quarterback Patrick Mahomes is fully cleared to participate in training camp, over seven months after Mahomes suffered ACL and LCL tears in his knee on December 14. The injuries ended Mahomes’ 2025 season. Reid said Mahomes will lead the first-team offense during 11-on-11 team periods throughout camp and that his quarterback is fully prepared to do so. Mahomes told reporters he is feeling “amazing” following his rehabilitation. The clearance sets the stage for Mahomes to be at full strength for the Chiefs’ regular-season opener in September.

49ers Open Training Camp With Kittle, Williams, Collins and Guerendo on PUP List
The San Francisco 49ers placed four players on the active physically unable to perform list as training camp opened Saturday, with tight end George Kittle headlining the group. Kittle is recovering from a torn Achilles suffered in January and will sit out the early portion of camp. Also placed on active PUP are defensive linemen Mykel Williams with a knee issue and Alfred Collins with a shoulder injury, along with running back Isaac Guerendo who has a pectoral injury. General manager John Lynch said Saturday he is optimistic about Kittle’s progress and expects the tight end to be available for Week 1.

Patriots Offer Gonzalez Contract That Would Make Him Highest-Paid Cornerback in NFL History
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft disclosed Saturday that the club has extended an offer to cornerback Christian Gonzalez that would make him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history and the largest contract in franchise history. Head coach Mike Vrabel confirmed negotiations are ongoing but the parties have not yet reached an agreement. Gonzalez reported to training camp Friday and participated fully in Saturday’s practice while talks continue. Gonzalez currently has two seasons remaining on his rookie contract. The Patriots begin the 2026 season against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks in the league’s primetime season opener on September 9.

Puka Nacua Attends Rams Camp Without New Deal as Contract Talks Continue
Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua is attending training camp as he seeks a new contract, head coach Sean McVay confirmed Saturday. Nacua led the NFL in receptions with 129 catches in 2025 and is seeking a long-term extension worth upwards of $40 million per season. McVay confirmed Nacua will practice throughout camp without a new deal in place while the two sides continue negotiations. Offensive lineman Alaric Jackson, also seeking a new deal, is also in attendance and practicing. Nacua is in the final year of his rookie contract with Los Angeles.

Nick Bosa and Fred Warner Cleared for 49ers Camp After Season-Ending 2025 Injuries
San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa and linebacker Fred Warner have both been cleared to participate in training camp, returning from season-ending injuries sustained during the 2025 season. Bosa suffered a torn ACL and spent his offseason rehabilitating near the team facility in the Bay Area rather than his usual base in Florida. Warner is coming back from a season-ending ankle injury. General manager John Lynch said Saturday that Bosa is feeling really good after his extended time near the facility. The pair’s return provides a significant boost to San Francisco’s defense as camp opens.

Reigning NFL MVP Stafford on Modified Practice Schedule as Rams Open Training Camp
Los Angeles Rams training camp opened Sunday at Loyola Marymount University with reigning MVP quarterback Matthew Stafford following a modified practice schedule. Head coach Sean McVay said the plan calls for Stafford to skip days one and three of each four-day practice block, with the veteran quarterback doing independent conditioning work on those days instead. McVay said the approach is designed to keep Stafford fresh and ready to go for the Rams’ Week 1 game against the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia, on September 10. Stafford is healthy heading into camp after dealing with a back injury that limited him last season.

Ty Simpson Signs Rookie Deal as Final First-Round Pick From 2026 NFL Draft
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Ty Simpson has signed his rookie contract, making him the last member of the 2026 NFL Draft’s first round to come to terms with his club. Simpson signed ahead of the Rams’ first training camp practice Sunday at Loyola Marymount University. His agreement completes the slate of first-round rookie contracts from the 2026 draft class, meaning all 32 first-round selections have now signed with their respective clubs heading into camp. The Rams selected Simpson in the first round this spring and are adjusting their training camp structure this summer to help develop the young quarterback.
