White Sox Rout Dodgers 8-2 Behind Kay’s Seven Strikeouts
Chicago’s seven-run fifth inning sends Roki Sasaki to his fourth loss; Los Angeles plays without Ohtani
Chase Meidroth had three hits and two RBIs, and Anthony Kay struck out seven in five effective innings as the Chicago White Sox beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-2 Friday at Guaranteed Rate Field. Chicago scored seven times in the fifth inning, chasing starter Roki Sasaki, who allowed seven runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. Andrew Benintendi homered and Miguel Vargas hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the decisive frame. The White Sox improved to 19-3 in their last 22 home games. Los Angeles played without Shohei Ohtani, sidelined with left knee inflammation and listed as day-to-day.

Alejandro Kirk went 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs in his return from a 62-game absence, and Kazuma Okamoto and George Springer also homered as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the New York Yankees 8-5 Friday at Rogers Centre. Kirk had been sidelined since April with a fractured left thumb. Trey Yesavage earned the win, allowing four hits and five runs in five-plus innings, while Louis Varland worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his 12th save. Cody Bellinger hit his 10th home run for New York, whose four-game winning streak was snapped. Outfielder Trent Grisham left in the sixth with right hamstring tightness.

Butler’s Seventh-Inning Run Lifts Athletics Past Rockies 6-4

Lawrence Butler scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning on a throwing error and added an RBI single in the eighth as the Las Vegas Athletics rallied to beat the Colorado Rockies 6-4 Friday. Shea Langeliers hit his team-leading 18th home run, a 450-foot shot to center field, and Nick Kurtz followed with his 16th, a 471-foot blast to right-center. The back-to-back homers in the fifth tied the score at 4-4. Butler then broke the deadlock when Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman threw the ball away during a rundown. Mason Barnett earned the win and Hogan Harris recorded his sixth save.

Busch Splashes Into McCovey Cove as Cubs Down Giants 5-1

Javier Assad struck out five over six innings of three-hit ball and Michael Busch hit a three-run home run into McCovey Cove as the Chicago Cubs beat the San Francisco Giants 5-1 Friday at Oracle Park. Busch’s drive was the 176th splash hit in McCovey Cove history, the 68th by an opponent, and the fourth by a Cubs player, the first since Joc Pederson on June 3, 2021. Seiya Suzuki broke a scoreless game with an RBI double in the fourth, and Nico Hoerner added a sacrifice fly. Assad improved to 4-1, winning his third straight decision over seven starts.

Sam Aldegheri tossed five effective innings and Trey Mancini drove in two runs with a triple as the Los Angeles Angels edged the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 Friday night in Anaheim. Aldegheri improved to 2-1 on the season while Shane McClanahan took the loss, dropping to 6-4. Logan O’Hoppe and Nolan Madrigal each contributed an RBI for Los Angeles. Ryan Zeferjahn recorded his second save, striking out Cedric Mullins with the bases loaded in the ninth inning to preserve the win. The Rays, who entered the game atop the AL East, have now lost consecutive games.

Ohtani Held Out With Knee Inflammation; Imaging Returns Clean
Dodgers manager Roberts says concern level is ‘not high’; two-way star listed as day-to-day for weekend series
Shohei Ohtani was held out of the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup Friday against the Chicago White Sox after exiting an earlier game with left knee inflammation. Manager Dave Roberts described the decision as precautionary and said the concern level was not high. Ohtani had imaging done on the knee that came back clean, showing no structural damage, and was listed as day-to-day entering the weekend series at Guaranteed Rate Field. The Dodgers star had been in exceptional form, batting .400 with eight hits in 20 at-bats over his previous five games, with three home runs and seven RBIs in that stretch.
Kirk Activated, Varsho to IL as Blue Jays Shuffle Roster
Heineman DFA’d; Schneider recalled from Buffalo; Rodriguez clears waivers and returns to Triple-A
The Toronto Blue Jays made several roster moves Friday, activating catcher Alejandro Kirk from the 60-day injured list and designating catcher Tyler Heineman for assignment. Outfielder Dalton Varsho was placed on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation, and outfielder Davis Schneider was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo to fill the vacancy. Kirk, who had missed 62 games since April after fracturing his left thumb, went 3-for-3 with a walk against the Yankees in his return that same evening. Reliever Yariel Rodriguez, designated for assignment on June 8, cleared waivers and was returned to Triple-A Buffalo.
