NFL Rules It Will Not Hold 2026 Supplemental Draft; Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby’s Path to NFL Pushed to 2027
The NFL ruled on June 23 it would not hold a 2026 supplemental draft, ending Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby’s chances of playing professional football this season. NFL Management Council general counsel Larry Ferazani cited Sorsby’s gambling history as involving issues too significant to permit meaningful review. Sorsby, who admitted to placing more than $90,000 in bets — including wagers on Indiana football while playing there in 2022 — had abandoned his NCAA lawsuit and applied for the supplemental draft just three business days before the deadline. His attorney Jeffrey Kessler called the decision a CBA violation. Sorsby’s earliest shot at the NFL is the 2027 annual draft.

4-Star DL Ben’Jarvis Shumaker Shocks Ole Miss, Flips to Colorado One Day After ‘Shutting Down’ Recruitment
One day after publicly announcing he was shutting down his recruitment with Ole Miss, four-star defensive lineman Ben’Jarvis Shumaker committed to Colorado and head coach Deion Sanders, in one of the more shocking flips of the 2027 recruiting cycle. The 6-foot-3, 270-pound prospect is ranked among the nation’s top-100 recruits and top-10 defensive linemen in the 2027 class. Shumaker had committed to Ole Miss on March 6 and appeared fully committed before Monday’s announcement. The reason for the rapid flip remains unclear. His departure is the sixth decommitment for Ole Miss in the 2027 class, further straining the Rebels’ efforts to build an elite recruiting cycle.

Florida State Lands QB Jaden O’Neal, TE Xavier Tiller, and WR Devin Carter in Active June Recruiting Stretch
Florida State put together one of college football’s most active June recruiting stretches, landing three high-profile additions to its 2026 class. Quarterback Jaden O’Neal, ESPN’s No. 7 pocket passer who decommitted from Oklahoma, committed to FSU on June 22. Tight end Xavier Tiller, ESPN’s No. 6 tight end and a former Texas A&M pledge, became Florida State’s top-ranked commit on June 23. Wide receiver Devin Carter, a former Auburn commit, also flipped to Tallahassee hours after Tiller’s announcement. The back-to-back additions position Florida State as one of June’s clear recruiting winners, with an offensive skill group rapidly taking shape around the incoming 2026 freshman class.

NFL, MLB, and Major Players’ Associations Formally Back Protect College Sports Act as Senate Vote Nears
The NFL, MLB, the NFL Players Association, and the NBA Players Association formally threw their support behind the Protect College Sports Act, the bipartisan Senate bill spearheaded by Sens. Ted Cruz and Maria Cantwell. The bill, which passed the Senate Commerce Committee 19-9 on June 18, would provide the NCAA with an antitrust exemption to enforce caps on athlete compensation and transfer rules. The pro leagues’ backing signals significant outside momentum ahead of an expected full Senate floor vote in July. The SEC and Big Ten remain opposed to the bill’s media pooling provision.

Pac-12 Unanimously Extends Commissioner Teresa Gould Through 2031, Aligning Contract With Conference’s Media and Grant of Rights Deals
The Pac-12 Conference’s board of directors unanimously extended Commissioner Teresa Gould’s contract through the 2030-31 season as the newly rebuilt conference prepares for its first full year of competition. Gould’s five-year extension aligns with both the conference’s Grant of Rights agreement and its media-rights deal through June 30, 2031. Her previous two-year contract was set to expire at the end of June. Gould has overseen the Pac-12’s reconstruction after the conference nearly dissolved in 2024; the rebuilt eight-school lineup includes former Mountain West members Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, and Utah State, alongside Texas State and holdovers Oregon State and Washington State.
