A24’s horror breakout Backrooms crossed $100 million at the domestic box office on Wednesday, becoming the first film in the studio’s 14-year history to reach that mark. Kane Parsons’ debut feature, co-financed with Chernin Entertainment for roughly $10 million, achieved the milestone in six days of release, toppling the previous A24 domestic record set by Marty Supreme at $96 million. Globally, the film has surpassed $136 million and is on course to overtake Everything Everywhere All at Once ($148 million) as A24’s second-highest-grossing film worldwide. Parsons, who is 20 years old, is the youngest filmmaker ever to open a No. 1 film at the North American box office.
