Information Sector Job Openings Jump 25 Percent in June, BLS JOLTS Data Shows
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released the June 2026 Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey on August 4, showing job openings in the information sector rising from 72,000 in May to 90,000 in June — an 18,000-position gain. Professional and business services openings fell from 1.375 million in May to 1.304 million in June. Total U.S. job openings held at 7.359 million. Total hires were 5.348 million. Layoffs and discharges across all industries were unchanged at 1.8 million. The BLS defines job openings as positions that were open on the last business day of the reference month.
Bending Spoons Acquires Airtable for $1.28 Billion in First Post-IPO Deal
Software company Bending Spoons agreed to acquire Airtable for $1.285 billion in cash on August 4, its first deal since listing on the Nasdaq on July 1, 2026. The transaction implies an equity value of approximately $2.25 billion for Airtable, whose annual recurring revenue is growing more than 20 percent year-over-year to approximately $480 million. More than 500,000 organizations, including 80 percent of the Fortune 100, use Airtable for work management. The deal follows Bending Spoons’ acquisitions of AOL in January and Eventbrite in March 2026. Airtable was founded in 2013 and reached a peak valuation of $11 billion in 2021.

Zillow and Nutanix Cut Nearly 900 Jobs Combined in August’s First Major Tech Layoffs
Real estate marketplace Zillow cut more than 500 jobs on August 4 — the company’s largest layoff of the year — representing 7 percent of its global workforce, according to the TrueUp layoffs tracker. Cloud datacenter infrastructure company Nutanix announced cuts of 390 positions the same day, equal to 5 percent of its global workforce. So far in 2026, the TrueUp tracker has recorded 511 tech layoff events affecting a total of 173,908 workers, an average pace of 801 people per day. The comparable 2025 full-year figure was 783 events and 245,953 people, at 674 people per day.

Lucid Motors CEO Napoli Fills Five C-Suite Roles and Creates AI Unit in Leadership Overhaul
New Lucid Motors CEO Silvio Napoli disclosed a sweeping executive hiring campaign on August 4 during the company’s second-quarter earnings. Lucid has filled five C-suite roles under Napoli — chief financial officer, chief technology officer, chief customer officer, chief digital officer, and chief transformation officer. Napoli also halved the number of people reporting directly to him. A new unit called Lucid Technologies, focused on AI and advanced driver assistance systems, will be led by Chief Digital Officer Kai Stepper. The leadership rebuild accompanies Napoli’s operational reset targeting $1.4 billion in cash reductions.
