Hurricanes Eliminate Canadiens 6-1 in Game 5, Return to Stanley Cup Final for First Time Since 2006
Taylor Hall and Logan Stankoven each had a goal and two assists as the Carolina Hurricanes eliminated Montreal 6-1 in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Final at Lenovo Center on Friday. Eric Robinson scored on a breakaway to make it 3-0, and Shayne Gostisbehere added a power-play goal in the second period. Jackson Blake and Seth Jarvis each had a goal and an assist. Frederik Andersen made 23 saves as Carolina finishes 12-1 in the playoffs. Cole Caufield scored on the power play for Montreal, and Jakub Dobes stopped 24 shots. Carolina is in the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since winning the title in 2006.

McKenna Leads 90 Prospects to Buffalo as 2026 NHL Scouting Combine Opens
Ninety top prospects are in Buffalo for the 2026 NHL Scouting Combine, running June 1–6 at KeyBank Center and LECOM HarborCenter ahead of the draft at the same venue June 26–27. Gavin McKenna, the projected top overall pick, is among the attendees. The 18-year-old Penn State left wing led NCAA freshmen at 1.46 points per game, recorded 51 points in 35 games, and was voted Big 10 Freshman of the Year. Canada Blanks USA 4-0 in IIHF World Championship Quarterfinals, Advances to Saturday Semis
Canada shut out the United States 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2026 IIHF World Championship on Thursday in Zurich. Norway Reaches First-Ever IIHF World Championship Semifinal After Haukeland's Third Shutout
Norway defeated Latvia 2-0 on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the 2026 IIHF World Championship for the first time in the country's history, guaranteeing the Norwegians at minimum a bronze medal. Goaltender Henrik Haukeland recorded his tournament-leading third shutout, stopping all 35 Latvian shots to raise his record to 6-0 for the tournament. Norway had reached the quarterfinals just twice before, in 2008 and 2012, with both appearances ending in defeat. The nation's previous best finish at the World Championship was fourth place in 1951. Norway will face host Switzerland in Saturday's semifinal at Swiss Life Arena in Zurich. The winner advances to Sunday's gold medal game.
