Springs Takes No-Hit Bid Into 7th, A’s Shut Out Yankees 1–0 to Claim Series

Jeffrey Springs came within four outs of a no-hitter, carrying his gem into the seventh inning before Ben Rice singled to right field off an 84-pitch outing. Springs finished with seven one-hit innings, striking out six and walking two, as the Oakland Athletics shut out the New York Yankees 1-0 at Yankee Stadium. The lone run came when Max Muncy tripled and scored on a Tyler Soderstrom single off reliever Ryan Weathers. The win — the A’s first 1-0 triumph over New York since April 1979 — clinched their first series victory at Yankee Stadium since 2016, with Springs improving to 2-0.

Pirates Sign Teen Shortstop Konnor Griffin to Record $140M, 9-Year Extension

The Pittsburgh Pirates made franchise history on Wednesday, agreeing to a record nine-year, $140 million contract extension with 19-year-old shortstop Konnor Griffin — less than a week after his major league debut. The deal is the largest in Pirates history and the biggest ever for any player in his rookie year, running through 2034 and buying out three potential years of free agency. Griffin, regarded across the industry as a franchise-level talent, made his MLB debut just days ago and is already locked up long term. Former GM evaluators are calling the signing a momentous achievement for Pittsburgh, signaling a genuine commitment to building around their young star.

Cubs Ace Cade Horton Faces Season-Ending Elbow Surgery, Rotation in Crisis

The Chicago Cubs absorbed a devastating rotation blow when right-hander Cade Horton was confirmed to need elbow surgery that will end his 2026 season. Horton, regarded as one of the organization’s premier young arms, has a torn ulnar collateral ligament. Whether he requires a full Tommy John procedure — his second, having undergone UCL reconstruction in college at Oklahoma — or a less invasive alternative will only be determined once the procedure begins. The Cubs, who had high rotation expectations entering 2026, will now need to explore the free-agent market to fill the void, with Opening Day starter Matthew Boyd also currently on the injured list.
