Caleb Durbin’s walk-off single in the 13th inning scored Nick Sogard, lifting the Boston Red Sox to a 12–11 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday and extending their winning streak to eight games. Boston became the first team in MLB history to score in five consecutive extra innings, repeatedly rallying over 4 hours and 23 minutes to answer every White Sox surge. Connor Wong hit a two-run home run for Boston, while Anthony Seigler drove in three runs for Chicago. The Red Sox have gone 31–5 since June 25.

Cristopher Sanchez Becomes First 15-Game Winner in Majors, Phillies Top Nationals 7–3
Cristopher Sanchez became the first pitcher in the major leagues to reach 15 wins this season, allowing two runs in five innings as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Washington Nationals 7–3 Thursday. Sanchez improved to 15–4 on the year. The Phillies powered the offense with eight doubles, including RBI doubles from Luis Arraez, Alec Bohm, Bryce Harper, Brandon Marsh, and Bryson Stott — who had two of the team’s eight doubles. Washington starter Miles Mikolas surrendered six runs on 12 hits in five innings to fall to 3–9. Philadelphia has won five of its last six games.

Alex Bregman’s Ninth-Inning Homer Fuels Cubs’ 11th Walk-Off Win of the Season
The Chicago Cubs won their 11th walk-off game of the season Thursday, defeating the Toronto Blue Jays 3–2 in 11 innings in a makeup of a June 21 game. Pete Crow-Armstrong scored the decisive run in the bottom of the 11th after Blue Jays infielder Brandon Valenzuela’s throw to third base went wide. Alex Bregman had kept Chicago alive with a two-strike, two-out home run in the ninth inning to tie the game and force extra innings. The Cubs improved to 67–49 and remained in the National League wild card race.

Mets Rout Guardians 13–6 to Complete Sweep; Foster Griffin Struggles in Cleveland Debut
New York Mets completed a three-game sweep of the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday with a 13–6 victory, pounding Foster Griffin in his first start after being acquired from Washington at the trade deadline. Griffin, who entered 12–4, allowed five runs — including home runs to Marcus Semien and Luis Torrens in the second inning — in four innings. Francisco Lindor added a three-run home run in the seventh off Craig Yoho. Semien, Benge, and Louis Robert Jr. each had three hits, and Torrens drove in three runs. Hunter Greene Returns to IL With Elbow Soreness; Reds Manager Sees ‘Slim Chance’ of Season Return
Cincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to Sunday with right elbow soreness, manager Terry Francona said Thursday, describing the odds of Greene pitching again this season as a ‘slim chance.’ Greene had already undergone surgery in the spring to remove bone chips from the elbow before making his 2026 debut on July 4. He went 2–2 with a 6.83 ERA in five starts before the injury recurred. Greene is seeking a second opinion from Dr. Neal ElAttrache. The Reds recalled Luis Mey from Triple-A Louisville to fill the roster spot.

Framber Valdez Shuts Out Mariners, Dillon Dingler Homers as Tigers Win 11–0
Framber Valdez allowed just five hits over seven shutout innings and Dillon Dingler homered for the third consecutive game as the Detroit Tigers routed the Seattle Mariners 11–0 on Thursday, winning the series and their fifth game in the last six. Dingler’s 401-foot blast in the first inning was his 26th homer of the season, most among American League catchers. Kevin McGonigle added a two-run home run in the seventh, his 12th of the season. McGonigle and Javier Báez each contributed two hits and two RBI. Detroit moved within one game of Texas for the final AL wild card.
Padres Beat Diamondbacks 5–1, Close Within One Game in NL Wild Card Race
The San Diego Padres defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 5–1 on Thursday night, pulling within one game of Arizona for the third and final National League wild card spot. Jackson Merrill and Ty France each had two hits and an RBI, while Luis Rengifo contributed three hits and Fernando Tatis doubled and scored twice. Four San Diego relievers combined for five scoreless innings after Walker Buehler started. The Padres improved to 60–56 and are 12–8 since the All-Star break. Arizona fell to 61–55 as the two clubs split their four-game series.

Cardinals, Royals, and Reds Add Depth Through Post-Deadline Waiver Claims
Following the August 3 trade deadline, teams continued reshaping rosters through post-deadline waiver claims reported Thursday. The St. Louis Cardinals claimed outfielder Everson Pereira off waivers from the Chicago White Sox. The Kansas City Royals claimed left-handed pitcher Luke Little off waivers from the Chicago Cubs and optioned him to Triple-A Omaha. The Cincinnati Reds were the most active club, claiming right-handed pitchers Ron Marinaccio from the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chase Solesky from the Tampa Bay Rays. The Reds claimed two players in back-to-back moves, rounding out a busy post-deadline period for the organization.
