Yamamoto Chased in Shortest Postseason Start as Dodgers Offense Stalls

Yoshinobu Yamamoto lasted just 2 2/3 innings in the Dodgers’ 7-4 NLCS Game 2 loss at Milwaukee on Monday, the shortest postseason start of his career. Yamamoto entered 8-1 with a 2.14 ERA in 11 career playoff appearances but allowed three runs on four hits, walking two and striking out one. In the third inning, Jake Bauers drew a 12-pitch walk to load the bases before Christian Yelich’s two-run single ended his night. “Obviously wasn’t sharp. Just wasn’t sharp today,” manager Dave Roberts said. The Dodgers managed three hits, have not homered in the series and are 2 for 26 with runners in scoring position this postseason.

Snell and Gasser Set to Start NLCS Game 3 in Los Angeles

Snell lasted 3 2/3 innings in his 2026 postseason debut against Atlanta in the NL Division Series, walking five. Manager Dave Roberts said a late-season groin issue was not the cause, adding that Snell “just wasn’t sharp.” Snell went 4-0 with a 1.13 ERA in eight starts after returning from elbow surgery. Gasser went 5-5 with a 3.87 ERA in the regular season and allowed seven runs over 10 2/3 innings in two outings against the Dodgers this season.

Rays Add Brody Hopkins, Guardians Add Slade Cecconi for ALCS

The Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Guardians each made one change from their Division Series rosters before Monday’s ALCS opener. Tampa Bay replaced left-hander Garrett Cleavinger with rookie right-hander Brody Hopkins. Cleavinger carried a 3.09 ERA into mid-August but allowed 10 runs over his final 6 1/3 innings before landing on the injured list with forearm discomfort; he was on the ALDS roster but did not pitch. Cleveland swapped utilityman Daniel Schneemann for right-hander Slade Cecconi, adding a pitcher for the best-of-seven series. The Rays are carrying 14 hitters and 12 pitchers, while the Guardians are carrying 13 of each.

Rays’ Junior Caminero Avoids Serious Injury After Collision with DeLuca

Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero appears to have avoided serious injury after colliding with outfielder Jonny DeLuca while chasing a foul ball in the ninth inning of Monday’s 7-3 ALCS Game 1 loss to Cleveland. Brayan Rocchio’s fly ball drifted toward the Guardians’ bullpen down the left-field line, and neither player caught it. DeLuca rolled into the bullpen, while Caminero stayed in the game after being checked. “Just my head hurts a little bit, but overall good,” Caminero said through an interpreter. Manager Kevin Cash said Caminero “got the wind knocked out of him a little bit.” DeLuca said his left shoulder and hand were banged up.
