Chicago Fire FC Signs Robert Lewandowski as Designated Player
Chicago Fire FC completed the signing of Polish striker Robert Lewandowski on Monday, bringing one of the world’s most prolific goal scorers to Major League Soccer. The 37-year-old joins as a free agent after his FC Barcelona contract expired, inking a two-year Designated Player deal through the 2027–28 MLS season. Head coach Gregg Berhalter, who began pursuing Lewandowski as far back as January 2025, said the club had worked on the deal for 18 months. Lewandowski scored 120 goals in 193 appearances for Barcelona, winning three LaLiga titles. He turned down interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Europe to join Chicago, who sit third in the Eastern Conference.

Sam Kerr Returns to NJ/NY Gotham FC on Five-Year NWSL Deal
Sam Kerr has completed a return to NJ/NY Gotham FC, signing a five-year deal through the 2030 NWSL season. The Australian striker, who won the NWSL Championship with Gotham in 2023, was a free agent after her contract with English club Chelsea expired. The signing, announced Monday, makes Kerr one of the NWSL’s marquee additions ahead of the league’s return from its June World Cup break. Gotham, the reigning NWSL champions, successfully defended the Challenge Cup earlier this month, with Esther González and Jordynn Dudley scoring in a 2–0 win over Kansas City Current on June 26.
