GiveWell Renews Fortify Health Support With $10 Million Grant After Finding Program Far Outperformed Projections
A detailed lookback by charity evaluator GiveWell on its 2021 grant to Fortify Health found the Indian iron-fortification program was roughly 30 times more cost-effective than originally estimated. Fortify Health, which partners with wheat flour mills to add iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12, grew its fortified-flour production 30-fold, reached significantly more beneficiaries than projected, and spent well below budget. Based on these findings, GiveWell awarded a new two-year, $10 million renewal grant to continue expanding the program. The lookback marks one of the most encouraging results in GiveWell’s growing library of post-grant evaluations.

GiveWell Analysis Finds Malaria Nets Cut Child Mortality Risk by About 25 Percent in DRC Study
A comprehensive lookback on insecticide-treated net distributions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, funded by GiveWell and carried out in partnership with the Against Malaria Foundation, found that net campaigns reduced the risk of child death by approximately a quarter. The analysis drew on three independent quantitative sources—AMF monitoring data, a Demographic and Health Survey, and an original GiveWell-commissioned survey—alongside qualitative interviews across five provinces. Researchers used the staggered provincial rollout schedule as a natural experiment to isolate impact. Qualitative findings confirmed nets are highly valued and generally well used in the communities surveyed.

GiveWell Seeks New Malaria Programs for Africa Expansion as Organization Plans to Deploy $500 Million in 2026
GiveWell has opened a new request for information seeking proposals for malaria pilot programs and research in Africa, with submissions due June 24. The charity evaluator, which has directed more than $1 billion in donations to malaria prevention over its history, plans to award $500 million or more in total grants in 2026. The RFI seeks proposals in two tracks: chemoprevention and vector-control pilot programs, and research and evaluation with potential to shape future grantmaking. The organization is encouraging applications from any group working in the malaria space, particularly those in under-resourced settings.
